Is Pokemon Unite Crossplay?

Is Pokemon Unite Crossplay?

Pokémon is one of, if not the, most ubiquitous franchises in the world. It is everywhere, and covers just about everything. I knew kids with bedrooms covered in wall-to-wall Pokémon stuff growing up. As such a ubiquitous franchise, it only makes sense that, when a Pokémon MOBA releases, it would also be on everything humanly possible. So, is Pokémon Unite crossplay?

Is Pokemon Unite Crossplay?

The answer to that question is both no and yes. At the game’s initial launch on the Nintendo Switch this month, it will not have crossplay, because there won’t be any other platforms to play with. When the game launches on mobile devices this September, however, then it will have crossplay. Players on the Switch, iOS mobile devices, and Android mobile devices will all be able to match up and play with one another no problem, and across team lines as well. You can have a mix of platforms on a single team, rather than a team of all one kind of platform versus another on another kind of platform.

In addition to crossplay, the game is also slated to have full cross-progression functionality. This means if you start the game when it releases on the Switch but find the mobile version more to your taste in September, you can carry over all of your progress, including items and cosmetics. The only caveat to this is that you can’t transfer the game’s premium currency, Gems, but since you can transfer the stuff that Gems buy, then you just gotta spend ‘em first.

TiMi hasn’t specified what the precise medium of cross-progression transfer will be, though it’s a safe bet that it’ll involve the linkage of a Nintendo account to the game app, either automatically through a Switch or through a login on a mobile device.
