Squirtle abilities in Pokémon unite

Starting as Squirtle, you will likely want to go with Water Gun for your first ability in the build. You can snag those creep kills and pepper some damage to opposing Pokémon. Your other option is Skull Bash, which is nice to set up some nice ambushes.

  • Water Gun – Attacks with a shot of water, shoving opposing Pokémon and decreasing their movement speed for a short time.
  • Skull Bash – Fiercely rams an opposing Pokémon and leaves it unable to act.

Blastoise Level 5 abilities

Your first ability option at level 5 is Hydro Pump and Water Spout. Both of these are good options, so it will depend on if you want greater damage or want to provide some crowd control for your team. Most players opt to use Hydro Pump here since being able to “pump” out big numbers on defense will make it hard for other Pokémon to challenge you.

  • Hydro Pump – Blasts out a huge amount of water, dealing damage and shoving back enemies.
  • Water Spout – Spouts water toward a location, decreasing the movement speed of anyone in the area.

Blastoise Level 7 abilities

Here’s where your Blastoise can veer toward two different builds. At level 7, you have the option of picking Surf or Rapid Spin. Blastoise’s Surf move is quite powerful, pushing enemies a pretty long distance and allowing you to cover a good amount of ground. It’s a good choice for a pure defensive Blastoise.

Rapid Spin, on the other hand, is a more damage-oriented move. It transforms Blastoise’s attacks when used, making your attacks shoot out all around you. If you went with Water Spout at level 5, you’d probably want to pick Rapid Spin.

  • Surf – Charge and shove enemies, leaving them unable to act. The user becomes immune to hindrances while using the attack and can jump in a direction afterward. It also grants a shield when upgraded.
  • Rapid Spin – Spins rapidly, changing the mechanics of its basic attacks and Hydro Pump and Water Spout moves. It also reduces the damage the user receives while using this move.

Blastoise Unite move

Blastoise’s Unite move is a good one, and it goes by the name of Hydro Typhoon. You spin around and throw Pokémon in a large area, which can be very disruptive to clumped-up enemies.

  • Hydro Typhoon – The user spouts water to attack while spinning, throwing opposing Pokémon in a large area. It also grants the user a shield.

Blastoise passive attack

Blastoise’s passive attack in Pokémon Unite is Torrent—when the Pokémon is at half HP or less, its Attack and Sp Atk increase. It may seem like a strange passive for a defender to have, but there’s no defense like a good offense, as they say!

  • Torrent – When the Pokémon is at half HP or less, its Attack and Sp Atk are increased.

What are the best Held Items for Blastoise in Pokémon Unite?

The best Held Items for Blastoise are Buddy BarrierFocus Band, and Score Shield or an offensive item. Pokémon Unite is decided by one or two end-game team fights, which makes Buddy Barrier one of the best defensive items in the game. Getting that 40% shield up on a teammate could be a game-changer.

Focus Band is another essential here for Blastoise because it will help immensely in the battle of attrition. You’re going to outlive pretty much any opponent that isn’t utilizing this item. And last but certainly not least, we like to rock a Score Shield on most defenders, and Blastoise is no exception.

  • Buddy Barrier – When the Pokémon uses its Unite Move, that Pokémon and the nearby ally Pokémon with the lowest HP are each granted a shield equal to 40% of their max HP.
  • Focus Band – When the Pokémon drops to low HP, then each second for three seconds, it recovers 14% of the HP it had lost.
  • Score Shield – While the Pokémon is attempting to score a goal, it is granted a shield equal to 10% of its max HP and its goals cannot be interrupted while it is shielded.

Alternative Held Items

If you’re going for a more offensive Blastoise and maybe picking up Water Spout and Rapid Spin, consider running with a Muscle Band or Wise Glasses. Or, why not both? We wouldn’t pass up the Buddy Barrier for either of these options, though. You would be best off swapping out Score Shield for one of these, and we’d probably recommend Muscle Band. As Blastoise, you will be doing many basic attacks, and the damage will add up to give you some nice overall damage boosts.

  • Muscle Band – When basic attacks hit, the damage is increased by 3% of the opposing Pokémon’s remaining HP.
  • Wise Glasses – Increases Sp Atk.

What is the best Battle Item for Blastoise in Pokémon Unite?

The best Battle Item for Blastoise is the Eject Button. Are you surprised? It’s a must-have on pretty much any build on any Pokémon. It provides an escape in the heat of battle and lets you quickly teleport a short distance. You already know the deal.

There you have it; the best Pokémon Unite Blastoise build. Remember, if the meta changes, so will this post, so bookmark it to stay up-to-date!
