The fifth generation of Pokemon introduced a lot of the most popular and enduring Pokemon species of the franchise. Pokemon Black and White were when Pokemon games started to become more accommodating of competitive play, incorporating things like built-in EV training, so a lot of the Pokemon introduced alongside those systems were intended to be tournament-ready. The same goes for Pokemon GO, though if you want to maximize their potential, you’ll need Unova Stones to evolve them. Here are all of the Pokemon that evolve with Unova Stones in Pokemon GO.
What is a Unova Stone in Pokemon GO?
Unova Stones are a special kind of evolutionary item that serve a similar purpose to Sinnoh Stones, albeit for Pokemon that were originally discovered in the Unova region. These stones allow Pokemon that would normally require trading or some other special means of evolution to evolve universally. Some of these Pokemon are well-regarded as competitive mainstays, so if you have any ideas about fighting in the Leagues, you’d better procure some Unova Stones.
All Pokemon that Evolve with a Unova Stone in Pokemon GO
The seven Pokemon that can be evolved with a Unova Stone are as follows:
- Lampent into Chandelure
- Eelektrik into Eelektross
- Minccino into Cinccino
- Munna into Musharna
- Pansage into Simisage
- Pansear into Simisear
- Panpour into Simipour
I’m just gonna come right out and say this: if you get a Unova Stone, your first priority should be to use it to get a Chandelure, bar none. Chandelure is one of the biggest DPS powerhouses in Pokemon GO, not just among Ghost and Fire types, but among all Pokemon.
How to Get a Unova Stone in Pokemon GO
So how do you actually get Unova Stones? At the moment, the only consistent way you can get one of these black-and-white beauties is from a random drop earned through a Field Research Breakthrough. If you successfully complete and turn in Field Research Tasks every day for a week, you’ll get enough stamps for a Breakthrough.
Breakthroughs net you special Pokemon encounters, and if you’re lucky, a free Unova Stone, though this isn’t guaranteed. Besides that, it’s also possible to get Unova Stones from Timed Research Tasks that run during events, but at the time of writing, there aren’t any Time Research Tasks running that drop Unova Stones.
