Modern Warfare 2 Lone Wolves Criticize Game’s Teammate Spawning System

Players prefer system used in Call of Duty: Vanguard over the one used in the most recent iteration.

It would seem that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 players aren’t happy with the game’s spawn system. At least, if a popular thread on the game’s subreddit is any indication. Lone wolf players — or, those who do their best work alone as opposed to in a team environment — feel they’re being inordinately punished for their selected playstyle. Specifically, the current system of re-spawning near teammates as opposed to a centralized location away from enemies has these players enraged.

Modern Warfare 2 Players Criticize Spawning System

“There are so many instances were people spawn in the weirdest spots because their teammates are there,” wrote u/MuscledRMH. “I’ve probably never had so many instances of spawn – die – spawn than I had in this game.” They go on to say that the current respawning system makes the game feel like chaos. They also mentioned that they found the system in Call of Duty: Vanguard to be superior.

Where u/MuscledRMH seemed to hold onto hope that Infinity Ward would reverse course, others weren’t so optimistic. Redditor u/xDefimate responded that this system was designed this way on purpose.

“We are stuck with it,” they said.

‘They Have Not Addressed That …’

It’s not as if players are the only ones calling out Infinity Ward for this unpopular decision. Before launch, Call of Duty content creator JGOD criticized the system as well. In their final review video of the Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Beta, they, too, mention how the system used in Vanguard wasn’t ideal, but they claim it was better than what Infinity Ward has opted for Modern Warfare 2.

“The spawns have always been bad, and that’s because Modern Warfare 2019 introduced a squad spawn system which uses irregular spawns and irregular logic,” said JGOD. They went on to say that “there’s like almost no correlation there to common sense logic on the way the map should operate” and that “they [Infinity Ward] have not addressed that, they literally copied and pasted it, they have made no acknowledgment to their crappy spawn system.”

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 released October 28 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
