How to do topspin and backspin in Mario Golf Super Rush

Mario Golf Super Rush is now available on Nintendo Switch. Golfers will be pleased to know that despite it being a more casual golf game than, say, PGA Tour, there are many ball control options. One of the basics you’ll want to master for progressing through single-player and beating out the competition is ball spin. Here’s how to do topspin and backspin in Mario Golf Super Rush.

How to do Topspin in Mario Golf Super Rush

To get topspin on the ball in Mario Golf Super Rush, press A to start the shot, and then double-tap A again to get topspin. Doing this puts topspin on the ball, making it roll a further distance when it hits the ground. It can be a good option if the hole is a bit out of range from where your power will allow you to reach.

How to do Backspin in Mario Golf Super Rush

To get a backspin on the ball in Mario Golf Super Rush, press A to start the shot and press B to get a backspin. You can also double-tap B to get super backspin. Backspin on the ball can be very useful if the hole is at the top of an incline, and you need to stop the ball’s velocity as soon as it lands.

Utilizing both topspin and backspin is crucial in navigating the various courses in Mario Golf Super Rush. You can throw some of your stat points into the spin skill to better control the mechanic if you play through single-player golf adventure mode.

Note that the process is different for players using motion controls. If you use motion controls, you can try swinging under the ball to get backspin and over the ball to get topspin. It will certainly take some practice to master the technique, and it’s difficult to explain without demonstrating it in person.
