What I love occasionally, not always, is to be faced with an impossible confrontation in which the odds are so one-sided that it is better just to surrender in the spot and never play the game again. However, there is always a way, and wits and strategy usually beats the pure strength and muscle. Sometimes they don’t, but sometimes they do, and it is quite a sight to witness. This is the case of your encounter with the Piranesi in Ixion. You will be against a true threat, but if you continue reading, you will find that you have all that it takes to not only survive, but defeat the mighty Piranesi. Here is how to defeat the Piranesi and avoid missiles in Ixion.
How to Defeat Piranesi and Avoid Missiles
Well, you’re into some trouble now! This confrontation is the very best definition of David versus Goliath. What can your little space station do against a super-battlestation like the Piranesi? Well, if you have done everything right up to this point, there is a possibility that you can put an end to the Piranesi and, with enough skill and luck, avoid its attacks in the form of deadly missiles. You have already learned Hacking Threat Analysis and Drone Threat Analysis in the previous chapter, but you also need an upgrade called Missile Threat Analysis. You unlock it by finding an unexploded missile of the Piranesi, defusing it and returning it to the Tiqqun. After studying it, you will unlock Missile Threat Analysis.
Once you have everything you need, and Chapter Four begins, conduct a full survey of all the system first. Then, send a Science Ship to the Piranesi. Of course, it will be obliterated, but it will give you a bit of information. Move towards the Piranesi. This will awaken it and begin your battle with it. Avoid the Piranesi at all costs, since it has a swarm of drones that will effectively destroy you in an instant. It will also begin to attack you with missiles, drone swarms, and ocassional hacking.
To avoid the missiles, initiate the Missile Threat Analysis in any Probe Launcher to build missile countermeasures that will locate the missiles and destroy them. To defend yourself against the drone swarms, activate the Drone Threat Analysis, in order to reduce the damage rate you receive, however it will not defend you entirely. Futhermore, the drones will orbit the closest planet to you, rendering that area of the system completely unsafe to travel. Finally, the Piranesi will attempt to hack your space station. Use your Hacking Threat Analysis upgrade to detect whenever the ship has undergone an attack and reactivate the Mess Halls. This is very important to do, otherwise you could potentially be oblivious of the attack, causing starvation on your crew.
After the Piranesi fires the second missile, the Tech Lab’s staff contacts you and proposes a plan to stop it. They propose to try to activate the system’s Pulsar to stop the Piranesi. Send a Science Ship to the system’s center in order to begin this ordeal. You will have to resist the attacks from the Piranesi for then cycles until the Science Ship completely studies the Pulsar.
Once done, you will receive two upgrades available for research: Faraday Cage and Icarus-3 Probe. Start with the Faraday Cage, which will cost you 480 Polymer. While constructing the cage, send notice to the Science Ship to begin building the Icarus-3 Probe. You will need to have the probe ready as soon as the Cage is ready as well. Activate the Icarus-3 Probe, which will activate the Pulsar, disabling the Piranesi entirely. Dock with the Piranesi and retrieve the Remus coordinates. You have done it!

I must say, I’m really impressed that you have done such a thing. I had little faith, but not, I’m a believer. Congratulations on doing what’s necessary to achieve victory. Let us just honor our fallen Science Ship crew that sacrificed themselves for the mission. They have rendered things a lot easier for the rest of the game.
