Is Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Cross Platform?

While it is more than possible to play through a Borderlands game by yourself, one of the big draws of the series has always been the ease with which friends can drop in on your campaign and join in on the looting and shooting. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands carries on this tradition with aplomb, offering multiple easy features with which you can assemble a proper adventuring party. The only remaining question, then, is how far that functionality extends. So, is Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands cross platform?

The answer is yes, and a resounding one at that. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands features full cross platform compatibility with every single platform the game is available on. Whether you’re on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, or PC via the Epic Games Store (and eventually Steam), you’re free to play with anyone else on any other supported platform. That’s a big step up from Borderlands 3, which only had cross platform functionality between PC and Xbox.

Is Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Cross Platform?

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands’s cross platform functionality is facilitated through Gearbox’s SHiFT account system. If you’ve played the previous Borderlands games, you already know what this is, but if not, SHiFT is a sort of secondary account system that allows copies of the game to link up across platforms, independent of any existing infrastructure like Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and so forth (though you do need online subscriptions to play online on consoles).

When you first launch Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, you’ll be prompted to create a SHiFT display name for yourself. You can choose whether you want to enable cross platform matchmaking or not, though a SHiFT account is required if you want to use it. For those of you who already have a SHiFT account from previous Borderlands games, you can just make a temporary display name, and then when you link your copy of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands to the SHiFT website, you can switch back to your old name.

When you’re all connected up, just open the Social menu from either the main menu or pause menu to start matchmaking! Any players that join your world will drop right in, no reloading required.
