Is Strand Overpowered in Destiny 2?

Every game of Crucible, every Vanguard mission, and the singular Gambit match that is always being played will have multiple people using Strand.

When a new expansion drops in Destiny 2, the community usually finds the most overpowered exotics released with the DLC. However when something like Lightfall releases, where it introduces an entirely new sub-class, people will usually drift toward using it. Every game of Crucible, every Vanguard mission, and the single Gambit match that is always being played will have multiple people using Strand. As it did with Stasis, this has sparked much debate and controversy within the community. With some players believing that regardless of the new fragments for the other sub-classes, Strand is just too powerful. Let’s answer the question: is Strand overpowered in Destiny 2?

When you compare Destiny 2 to other MMO-like games, you’ll see that most things are streamlined for players more than normal. The abilities, classes, and overall playstyle of the game is simplified for players to be able to jump into a new character or sub-class with a relative amount of ease. This applies for Strand just as much as any other sub-class thanks to the fact that it’s the newest class. As with most other sub-classes that release, Strand is susceptible to being abused.

The thing that is hard to understand is the fact that Strand is going to change over time. Much like the rest of the game, Destiny 2 is constantly morphing and changing during its year long campaign. As a live service, the game has to change over the course of time in order to survive. This includes, tweaking and updating Strand, depending on how unchecked it goes. As of the expansions initial launch, Strand is a very powerful sub-class for players, not to mention the fact that Bungie just unlocked the rest of the Strand fragments for players. Fragments that were previously going to be unlocked later in the Month of March 2023. It will be interesting to see how they move forward with it, and how they will end up buffing or nerfing Strand in the coming months.
