How to Use Kreposts Effectively in Age of Empires 2

There are a decent amount of unique building for each civilization in Age of Empires 2. In the case of the Bulgarians, they possess a very particular building called the Krepost. These Kreposts are quite a unique building and they have their pros and cons. You see, these are a type of lower tier Castles that can be built faster than normal Castles, and they cost almost half of what a normal castle would. These can be very helpful when trying to spam Konnicks, which is the unique unit of the Bulgarians. You see, more castles, the more training capability you have. Also, these may serve as a great defense against non-ranged units, as long as they are placed in a choke point. These are points located behind an obstacle like a wall, forest, or cliff. In other words, the double the Kreposts, the double the damage output.

However, and this is a big however, Kreposts are much weaker than normal Castles. In fact, siege units will destroy these in half the time. Furthermore, you won’t be able to create siege units in Kreposts. So, if you intend to create them, you better build Castles. So, the best way to use them is to generate some defensive capabilities as well as a way to train and spam Konnicks. They can travel in packs to the enemy base to prevent them from expanding. Furthermore, they will support 20 population just like the castes, so building them can be worth it for the aforementioned strategy.

And there you go. Kreposts, like I said, have both pros and cons. You can build them faster, with equal offense and cheaper than Castles, but lack the defensive capabilities and the ability to create siege weapons. Outweigh all sides and use a combination of both buildings to make the best out of your possibilities.
