How to Use Firebolt Grenade Effectively in Destiny 2

We’re going over how to use Firebolt Grenades effectively in Destiny 2. They’re far from the best grenades in the world – but if you’re here, you know that already. Maybe you’re feeling experimental and looking to branch out from the typical Fusion or Solar Grenade setup. Maybe not, doesn’t matter to me – my job is to make sure you’re getting the most out of your Firebolts, which is exactly what I’m going to do.

I’ll run you through the best setup to get the most out of your Firebolt Grenades. You’re going to be limited in terms of what class you can run, but that comes with the territory. Firebolts need all the help they can get – so you can’t really afford to compromise on your build.

Destiny 2 – How to Use Firebolt Grenade Effectively

The Firebolt Grenade is one of the lesser-used Solar 3.0 Grenade options. Compared to the likes of Fusion Grenades and Solar Grenades, it doesn’t really outperform the other grenades in any meaningful way. If you’re determined to use it, though, there are a couple of things you can do to maximize its effectiveness.

First, let’s talk about what the Firebolt Grenade actually does:

• The Firebolt Grenade is an AOE grenade that strikes enemies in a circular radius, similar to Arcbolt Grenades. It Scorches each target it hits for 20 stacks, 40 if you have Ember of Ashes.

On its own – this isn’t very effective. However, if you decide to build into it with your Fragments, Aspects, and Mods, you can actually get it to put in a bit of work.

First, let’s talk about class. Solar Hunters have very little in the way of grenade support beyond Gunpowder Gamble – meaning you won’t get much value out of Firebolts on them. Same with Titans, whose Solar class revolves entirely around melee synergy.

That leaves Warlocks as the only class with the utility needed to make Firebolt Grenades passable, if not META.

Destiny 2 – Best Build for Firebolt Grenades

Warlocks tend to get the best grenade support across all subclasses, and that remains true for Solar. In particular, you’ll want to use the Touch of Flame Aspect. This is going to modify your Firebolt Grenades to increase their range, and the maximum number of targets it can hit. This increase isn’t insignificant, either – I was surprised by just how much extra range it actually gives.

You’ll want to supplement Touch of Flame with some Fragments that lean into Scorch, Ignition, and grenade regeneration:

• Ember of Char. This allows Ignition kills to spread Scorch.
• Ember of Blistering. This refunds grenade energy on Ignition kills.
• Ember of Eruption. This increases the AOE of Ignition explosions.
• Ember of Ashes. This increases the amount of Scorch stacks applied from Firebolt Grenades

That’s my personal preference for a grenade-based Solar build that isn’t a Starfire Protocol setup. Ember of Char, Eruption, and Ashes will apply more Scorch, spread Scorch on Ignitions, and increase the radius of Ignitions. Ember of Blistering will return grenade energy when you kill enemies with Ignitions.

You can obviously swap Fragments in and out depending on your weapon and mod setup, but this is the Fragment combination that’ll get you the most out of your Firebolt Grenades.

If you combine this build with a mod setup that prioritizes ability regeneration, you should be able to main a fairly high uptime on your Firebolts, especially with 100 Discipline.

You won’t be carrying any Grandmasters anytime soon, but you would be able to run them in GMs fairly competently – just don’t expect insane results.
