How to Upgrade Your Axe in Sons of the Forest

I need to axe you a question.

The hand-held axe is undoubtedly one of the most useful tools ever invented by humanity. It’s not just a pointy cudgel, it’s a pointy cudgel with leverage, which is so much better. It’s basically a perfect tool, but it can always be a bit more perfect. Here’s how to upgrade your axe in Sons of the Forest.

To clarify, the Tactical Axe you start the game with can’t be upgraded in the literal sense. There aren’t any attachments or improvements you can use to improve its stats or functions. However, while you can’t improve your Tactical Axe, you can obtain a different axe that is more or less an improvement: the Modern Axe.

The Modern Axe packs more raw power behind its swings at the cost of being a little slower, making it great for both combat and practical applications. Thankfully, unlike some other tools in Sons of the Forest, you don’t need to do anything too crazy to get your hands on it.

Finding the Modern Axe

The Modern Axe can be found in a derelict camp located near the base of the large, snowy mountain, near one of the purple exclamation point markers. Look for a three-way intersection of paths on your GPS, then head down the divide between the two paths.

You’ll find the Modern Axe inside a soldier’s chest in a tent. That is to say, buried inside of his physical chest, blade first, not in a container of some sort. Take a good look around this camp while you’re here; it’s chock full of useful items, and you can use the tent to save your game and rest as well.

Thanks to its keener edge, the Modern Axe is a big help, whether you’re chopping down trees or severing heads. Good ol’ axe, you never let us down!
