How to Upgrade Jess in The Chant

If you’ve been playing Prime Matter and Brass Token’s, The Chant, then you know that this game can pack quite the punch in terms of its layered gameplay. There’s never a shortage of things to do, as the game evolves over time as you make your way from chapter to chapter.

Something that I made sure to pay close attention to during my playthrough of The Chant was Jess and her upgrades that could be made to improve various aspects of her gameplay. So, today we’re going to explain how to upgrade Jess in The Chant as well as list off all of the available upgrades. Let’s check them out!

Things to Know About Upgrades in The Chant

When it comes to upgrades in The Chant, it’s actually a quite complex venture to be sure. But by the time the credits roll, you should have all of her available upgrades purchased, getting her to max power. Luckily, there are no specific builds or anything like that, as you will be able to purchase every upgrade as long as you collect a needed element of the upgrading process as you play the game.

There are a total of 12 different attributes of Jess that can be upgraded over the duration of the game, each being woven into the 3 different major aspects of Jess herself; Mind, Body, and Spirit. These 3 aspects of Jess will earn experience when the player does certain things.

Defeating creatures in the Gloom and eating Spirit Caps increase Spirit experience, defeating physical enemies and consuming Ginger improves the Body experience, and reading Lore and consuming Lavender will increase the Mind experience.

Each upgrade only opens up for purchase once you’ve earned enough XP in that category for it. Some are a combination of two, so that means both will need to have enough XP for purchase. In order to purchase upgrades, you’ll need to collect jars of Prismic Crystals, as this is used as the currency for purchasing upgrades. All of the upgrades can be purchased and improved further a total of 3 times, getting more expensive with each purchase.

How to Upgrade Jess in The Chant

• To actually purchase upgrades, navigate to the player menu and tab over to the Upgrades section.
• If you have enough XP for upgrades, they’ll appear in color for purchase.
• If you have enough Prismic Crystals, you’ll be able to purchase them.

Before ending this, it’s important to note that your upgrades do directly affect the kind of ending you’ll get by the time the game comes to a close, with the attribute with the highest level of experience determining which ending you’ll receive as a result.
