For those who don’t know, Sonic Origins is a collection of video games including Sonic The Hedgehog (1991), Sonic CD (1993), Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (1992), and Sonic & Knuckles (1994). So, not only is it a great way to re-live the original 2D games, it is now brought to you in high resolution, with new ways to play and many unlockable content, challenges, and levels.

One of the fan favorite features that can still be found, though, is the unlockable Super Sonic, who can jump high, run faster, and is invincible, and here is your how-to!

How To Unlock Super Sonic

There are two ways to unlock Super Sonic in Sonic Origins: one – by collecting all Chaos Emeralds, and two – via cheat code.

Super Sonic By Emeralds

For the six Chaos Emeralds for Sonic The Hedgehog, you need to have 50 rings when you finish and jump through the giant ring found in:

  • Green Hill: Act 2
  • Bridge: Act 1
  • Jungle: Act 1
  • Labyrinth: Act 2
  • Scrap Brain: Act 2
  • Sky Base: Act 2

For the seven Chaos Emeralds (technically referred to as Time Stones) for Sonic CD, you need to have 50 rings when you finish and jump through the giant ring found in each level:

  • Palmtree Panic
  • Collison Choas
  • Tidal Tempest
  • Quartz Quadrant
  • Wacky Workbench
  • Stardust Speedway
  • Metallica Madness

For the seven Chaos Emeralds for Sonic The Hedgehog 2, you need to have 50 rings and active the star posts to enter the Special Stage, (which has three parts and each part has a specific ring requirement):

  • Emerald Hill Zone 1 – has three-star posts and therefore three Special Stages.
  • Emerald Hill Zone 2 – has four-star posts and therefore four Special Stages.

For the seven Chaos Emeralds for Sonic & Knuckles, you have to find and enter the giant rings hidden throughout the levels to enter the Special Stage, (where you collect all the blue spheres):

  • Mushroom Hill Zone 1 – has seven hidden giant rings and therefore seven Special Stages.

Super Sonic Via Cheat Code

You could also always activate Super Sonic via cheat codes. This will work for Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, and Sonic & Knuckles.

  • Here you will go to Sound Test and play songs 4, 1, 2, and 6.
  • When you enter this correctly, you will hear the Chaos Emerald jingle.
  • Note: on the Stage Select screen, above Sound Test, you will need to change the Max Emerald amount to 7.
