How to Make a Normal Shiny Sandwich in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

There is nothing Normal about this sandwich

Increase those Shiny odds in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. With starting odds of 1/4096, players can use various methods to increase their chances of encountering the Shiny Paldean Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet. Whether you are using the Picnic Reset, Town Method or the Shiny Charm, there are many ways to increase those odds. The Picnic and Town methods can take a long time to execute however. Therefore, one of the methods players can use is the Shiny Sandwiches. This not only increases your chances but also targets specific Shiny Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet. This is our guide on how to make the Normal Shiny Sandwich.

What is a Normal Shiny Sandwich?

The Picnic function in Scarlet and Violet has offered players new opportunities to create sandwiches that increase the in-game Shiny odds. These are the Shiny Sandwiches. The purpose of these sandwiches is to temporarily aid the player in locating specific Pokémon and increase the amount of experience points and dropped items gained in the timeframe. The Shiny Sandwiches offer the x3 Meal Powers in Sparkling, Encounter and Title. These also require the rare ingredient of the Herba Mystica, shown in the Path of Legends questline.

Normal Shiny Sandwich Recipes

  • Intermediate Normal Shiny Sandwich Recipe – x1 Fried Fillet, x1 Salty Herba Mystica & x1 Spicy/Sour/Spicy Herba Mystica.
  • Expert Normal Shiny Sandwich Recipe – x2 Tofu, x1 Prosciutto, x1 Red Bell Pepper, x1 Green Bell Pepper, x1 Yellow Bell Pepper, x1 Spicy Herba Mystica & x1 Bitter Herba Mystica.

Thankfully, the majority of the ingredients used in the Shiny Sandwiches are common ingredients, found in food stalls around Paldea. The main location players should purchase ingredients at is inside the Mesagoza. This is the central city of Paldea. It houses three food stalls: Sure Cans, Deli Cioso and Artisan Bakery. The majority of the sandwich ingredients can be picked up here.

Interestingly, the Normal Sandwich Recipe has two core ingredients used, in the Intermediate it requires Fried Fillet and in the Expert, you need to buy Tofu. This is unlike other Shiny Recipes in Scarlet and Violet. Players should take into account the amount of money is required to make both sandwiches and how much time is spent obtaining the Herba Mystica through the Tera Raids. This guide will show you where to find all common ingredients in both recipes and where to get Herba Mystica to complete the Normal Shiny Sandwich in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Where to Get Fried Fillet and Prosciutto

Fried Fillet is one of the many ingredients available for purchase in Deli Cioso. This food stall can be found in Mesagoza, Porto Marinada (Paldea west) and Artazon (Paldea south). This is one of the more expensive ingredients to purchase in game, with a price tag of 360 Pokémon Dollars. Below is an exact location of Deli Cioso in Artazon (black circle on the map). Fried Fillet can only be bought in Deli Cioso. You can also pick up Prosciutto here for the Expert Normal Shiny Sandwich. This ingredient costs 200 Pokémon Dollars and is used in the majority of the Expert Shiny Recipes.

Where to Get Tofu

Similar to Fried Fillet, you can only purchase this ingredient in one food stall. Players need to go to the eastern city of Levincia to find Tofu. On the northern side of Levincia, enter the Supermarket called Aquiesta. Refer to the image below for the location of this Market. Tofu is 260 Pokémon Dollars and is one of the rarer ingredients players can purchase in game. In this Market, players can pick up Curry Powder, Klawf Sticks and Wasabi. We recommend players go to Artazon to pick up Fried Fillet in Deli Cioso and fast travel to Levincia to pick up the rest of the ingredients.

Where to Get Bell Peppers

Thankfully, Bell Peppers can be bought together as common ingredients in the food stalls Deli Cioso and Aquiesta Supermarket. Below is an exact location of Deli Cioso in Mesagoza. All Bell Peppers can be purchased here: Green, Yellow and Red. These are a crucial ingredient in making all Expert Shiny Sandwiches.

How to Get Herba Mystica

Herba Mystica is first introduced to us when playing through the Path of Legends questline. In order to obtain more Herba Mystica to use in all Shiny Sandwiches in Scarlet and Violet, players need to do these steps:

  • Finish Victory Road, Path of Legends and Starfall Street.
  • Defeat the Scarlet and Violet Final Boss (Area Zero).
  • Post-game begins after watching the credits. Defeat the Gym Leaders once more.
  • Complete the Academy Ace Tournament.
  • Winning the Tournament unlocks 5-Star Raids. You must defeat 15 5-Star Raids to unlock access to 6-Star Raids.

With the option to play in both 5- and 6-Star Raids, you need to know which Pokémon can drop Herba Mystica. The chances of picking up these Herbs are as follows, 24% chance in 5-Star and 28% in 6-Star. These odds are particularly low, therefore players must remain patient when finding and fighting the appropriate Tera Pokémon. The list of Tera Pokémon in both 5- and 6-Star Raids which drop the flavours of Herba Mystica is below.

We recommend players prioritise 5-Star Raids for farming Herba Mystica, due to the increased difficulty of 6-Star. However if you already have a strong team to take on Tera Pokémon then you should also fight 6-Star Raid Pokémon. For those who have just arrived in the post-game, they should focus on 5-Star Raids and develop a good team which can take on any Tera Pokémon. We recommend Iron Hands, Azumarill and Miraidon.
