How to Make a Ground Shiny Sandwich in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Lay down the Ground work

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has given players the option to experiment with the Shiny odds. Starting at 1/4096, experiment with the Picnic Reset and Town Method to increase these odds. You do not need to obtain the Shiny Charm in order to heavily increase your chances in encountering the Paldean Shiny Pokémon. For those looking to complete the Paldean Pokédex or collect all Shiny Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet, use the Picnic function and craft special Shiny Sandwiches. This is how to make a Ground Shiny Sandwich in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

What is a Ground Shiny Sandwich?

The Ground Shiny Sandwich is one of the 17 Shiny Sandwiches available in the game. These can be made following multiple recipes. All require a specific core common ingredient that is purchasable in multiple spots around Paldea. Alongside the requirement of the Herba Mystica. The purpose of the Shiny Sandwich is to increase your odds in encountering and capturing the specific Shiny Pokémon-Type.

The Shiny Sandwiches are just some of the possible Sandwich recipes you can make. The Picnic Sandwiches offer various Meal Powers of different power levels to temporarily aid the Trainer. Whether farming EXP, searching for a specific wild Pokémon or Shiny Hunting, the Sandwiches can be used to help you in various circumstances. The Meal Powers last a total of 30 minutes. They can be used during a Mass Outbreak, whilst executing the Picnic Resetting method, increasing your Shiny odds even further.

Meal Powers

  • Catching and Encountering – Small, Large, Shiny and Titled Pokémon chance increase.
  • Bonuses – EXP, dropped items and Pokémon Eggs.

Ground Shiny Sandwich Recipes

  • Intermediate Ground Shiny Sandwich Recipe – x1 Ham, x1 Salty Herba Mystica & x1 Spicy/Sour/Spicy Herba Mystica.
  • Expert Ground Shiny Sandwich Recipe – x2 Ham, x1 Prosciutto, x1 Red Bell Pepper, x1 Green Bell Pepper, x1 Yellow Bell Pepper, x1 Spicy Herba Mystica & x1 Bitter Herba Mystica.

Your choice in which recipe you follow depends on your luck in obtaining Herba Mystica. The original Shiny Sandwich Recipes primarily focussed on the use of Salty Herba Mystica. But with further experimentation, players have noted that all Herba Mystica can be used in different Shiny Sandwich Recipes. If you have already collected Herba Mystica at this point, you should try out the Expert Ground Shiny Sandwich Recipe. This requires the ingredients Bitter and Spicy Herba Mystica. As of now, these are the only use for these Herbs.

Otherwise, we recommend those who have just got started in Shiny Sandwich making to use the Intermediate Recipe. For this reason, this guide will show players how to specifically make the Intermediate Ground Shiny Sandwich. All Shiny Sandwiches will give x3 Meal Powers of Sparkling, Encounter and Title Powers. This is the best method to use to encounter specific Shiny Pokémon-Types.

Where to Get Ham

The core common ingredient to make the Ground Shiny Sandwich is Ham. This can be bought in multiple Artisan Bakery stalls around Paldea. We recommend when executing any sandwich recipe that players head to Mesagoza first. The majority of common ingredients can be found here. All of the food stalls are very close together, making it an easy trip to bulk buy ingredients for future sandwiches.

Ham is found in the Paldea towns/cities:

  • Mesagoza (central Paldean city), Artisan Bakery
  • Porto Marinada (western Paldean city), Artisan Bakery
  • Levincia (eastern Paldean city), Aquiesta Supermarket

Ham is 170 Pokémon Dollars. Players can refer to the image below for an exact screenshot of Artisan Bakery in Mesagoza (black circle on the map). On the western side of the city, players can visit Sure Cans and Deli Cioso too, to pick up other sandwich ingredients. Including that of the Bell Peppers needed for the Expert sandwich in Deli Cioso.

How to Get Herba Mystica

Players must obtain a minimum of x2 Herba Mystica for the Ground Shiny Sandwich Recipes. This is the hardest task to execute in Scarlet and Violet. The reasoning for this is because these Herbs are hard to obtain. Its item scarcity can only be located in the 5- and 6- Star Tera Raid Battles. But to get to this point, players must complete these steps:

  • Obtain 18 Badges from the 3 questlines: Starfall Street, Path of Legends and Victory Road.
  • Beat the Final Pokémon Boss in Area Zero.
  • Defeat the Gym Leaders again after seeing the credits.
  • Beat the Academy Ace Tournament.
  • You will gain access to 5-Star Raids at this point. You must beat 15 5-Star Raids to unlock 6-Star Raids.

The 5- and 6-Star Tera Raids can drop Herba Mystica. But there is a catch. The drop chances are very small, with 24% in 5-Star and 28% in 6-Star. It is crucial that players know which Pokémon can drop the Herba Mystica flavours. Refer to the list below on which Tera Pokémon can drop each Herba Mystica. These are the Pokémon to target in both Raid levels. Due to the obvious differences in difficulty, we recommend players fight 5-Star Pokémon, unless they are already used to fighting 6-Star Pokémon. Those trying to build a strong team should see our best builds at: Best Pokémon Builds to Use in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet 5 and 6-Star Tera Raids.

Whilst this will take even longer to execute as you have to find these specific 5- and 6-Star Raids to begin with. This will give you 75% chance in 5-Star and 83% in 6-Star of Herba Mystica dropping. Therefore, these are the Pokémon that should be on your radar as first picks when looking for Herba Mystica.
