How to Make a Poison Shiny Sandwich in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Increase those Shiny odds

Starting with odds of 1/4096 in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, use the Picnic Reset and Town Method to improve these Shiny encounter odds. These increase the odds without using the Shiny Charm. But what do we do to increase our chances of encountering a specific Shiny Pokémon? Through the Picnic function, players can make their own Sandwiches that offer abilities to increase the encountering chance of specific Pokémon. This is our guide on how to make a Poison Shiny Sandwich in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

What is a Poison Shiny Sandwich?

The Shiny Sandwich are 17 recipes which increase the encountering abilities of finding a Shiny Pokémon in the wild. Each recipe requires different common ingredients, but all need the Herba Mystica to complete the sandwich. Experiment with the Picnic function to make sandwiches to help you encounter specific Pokémon or boost the levelling up of your active party Pokémon. The Meal Powers from the sandwiches last for 30 minutes, they can be used during a Mass Outbreak via the Picnic Reset method. The Meal Powers in Scarlet and Violet are:

  • Catching and Encountering – Small, Large, Shiny and Titled Pokémon encountering and catching chance increase.
  • Bonus – EXP, Pokémon Eggs and dropped items.

Poison Shiny Sandwich Recipes

  • Intermediate Poison Shiny Sandwich Recipe – x1 Noodles, x1 Salty Herba Mystica & x1 Spicy/Sour/Spicy Herba Mystica.
  • Expert Poison Shiny Sandwich Recipe – x2 Green Bell Pepper, x1 Onion, x1 Prosciutto, x1 Red Bell Pepper, x1 Yellow Bell Pepper, x1 Spicy Herba Mystica & x1 Bitter Herba Mystica.

To make a Poison Shiny Sandwich, players require either the primary ingredient of Noodles or Green Bell Pepper. This requirement depends on the amount of Herba Mystica you obtain in your Raid search. In the initial experimentation of Shiny recipes, it was required for players to primarily obtain Salty Herba Mystica. But with further experimentation, players can now use other Herbs that have the same effect as Salty. Therefore, for players who have already obtained many Bitter and Spicy Herbs, they should attempt the Expert Recipe. This will use up those Herbs that you will have obtained.

For those just getting started in the post-game, they should stick to the Intermediate Poison Sandwich Recipe. All recipes have the powers: x3 Sparkling Power | x3 Encounter Power | x3 Title Power, increasing your Shiny Pokémon odds when searching for specific Shiny Pokémon-Types.

Where to Get Noodles

Noodles are only purchasable in the food stall called Sure Cans. Players can find this ingredient in the Sure Cans in both Mesagoza (central city of Paldea) and Porto Marinada Markets (western Paldean town). This ingredient costs 280 Pokémon Dollars. Refer to the screenshot below for the exact location of Sure Cans in Mesagoza. For players looking to complete the Expert Recipe, the Peppers can be bought in the Deli Cioso, near Sure Cans on the western side of Mesagoza.

How to Get Herba Mystica

For all Shiny Sandwiches, Herba Mystica is required. These can be found inside the 5- and 6-Star Tera Raids. These appear as glimmering crystals scattered throughout the Paldea region. Upon approaching the crystal, players will see what Star and Pokémon is hidden inside. The 5- and 6-Star Raids are accessible in the post-game of Scarlet and Violet. These are the steps players must do to access these high-level Raids.

  • Obtain 18 Badges from Victory Road, Path of Legends and Starfall Street.
  • Beat the Final Scarlet and Violet Boss in Area Zero.
  • After game completion, revisit and defeat the Paldea Gym Leaders.
  • Win the Academy Ace Tournament.
  • Now with access to 5-Star Raids, beat 15 5-Star Raids. This will unlock the 6-Star Raids.

The Raids have different chance percentages of dropping Herba Mystica. These also depend on the Pokémon you fight in the Raids. The chances are very small, from 24% in 5-Star and 28% in 6-Star. As the difference is miniscule, players should put their attention towards 5-Star Raids. That is if you are not used to fighting 6-Star Raids. Having the option to fight both will help for players who are running out of Tera Pokémon to fight that day. However, for those new to Raid battling, we recommend fighting 5-Star Raid Pokémon first.
