How to Increase Soul Meter in Tchia

Fruit: it's good for your soul.

People say certain things are “good for your soul,” like doing something nice for someone else or meditating in a quiet place. That’s nice on paper, but we don’t really have time for the long way in Tchia, so let’s opt instead for the short way: goodies from the Spirit Realm! Here’s how to increase Soul Meter in Tchia.

How to Increase Soul Meter in Tchia

In Tchia, the green segmented Soul Meter at the bottom of the screen determines how frequently you can use your Soul Jump ability to take control of animals and inanimate objects. It doesn’t cost any meter to use Soul Jump, but it’ll drain as long as you remain in control of something. If it drains completely, you’ll be automatically ejected from your host, which can be dangerous in some situations.

To remedy this, you’ll want to increase the capacity of your Soul Meter. As it so happens, similarly to your Stamina meter, there is a special fruit you can eat to increase the size of your Soul Meter. However, these Soul Fruits only grow in places where our realm meets the next, and those places can only be accessed through Totem Shrines.

How to Open Totem Shrines

In a few particular spots around the archipelago are Totem Shrines, large stone doors with an image of a carved totem painted on the front. Whenever Tchia passes by one of these doors, she’ll make a note of the door’s design. After that, you can visit any Totem Carving station, usually found in smaller villages, and consult the image to carve a matching totem. Afterward, bring the totem back to the Totem Shrine, pull it out of your backpack, and drop it into the indentation in the ground to open the stone door.

Within the spiritual realm contained within the Shrine, you’ll find a bundle of ivy housing a Soul Fruit, but to actually open the ivy, you’ll need to complete a challenge. Every Shrine has its own challenge, which could be a race, a platforming challenge, a shooting challenge, some manner of a puzzle, or something else entirely. If you can successfully complete the challenge, the ivy will open, allowing you to claim and devour the Soul Fruit within, increasing your Soul Meter by one segment.

Whenever you stumble upon a Totem Shrine, make sure to hit up a Totem Carving station as soon as possible so you can crack it open. More Soul Meter means getting to spend more time as a dog, or a rock, or a dolphin, and frankly, that’s a reward in itself.
