How to Get the Dynamite in Amnesia: The Bunker

Time to turn the Bunker into rubble

They never said that escaping the Bunker would be this difficult. Whether you are trying to get all tools before venturing out into the Arsenal and Roman Tunnels or attempting to hit that speedrun record, obtaining the Dynamite and Detonator will test your bravery and wits. All these years training in horror games has finally come to this point. Through stealth always being incorporated into scary games, or learning to play in the darkness, The Bunker invites you into its hellhole and expects you to make it out alive. Getting Dynamite to blow a hole into the Bunker and escape with your life intact (although your mind is not) is two-fold. Get the Arsenal Code from Soldiers Quarters and then the Dynamite out of the Arsenal. This is Vincent’s guide on how to do both.

How to Get Arsenal Code

The Arsenal Code becomes one of two major objectives you need to complete in The Bunker if you want to get out of there alive. Unfortunately, because luck is not on your side, both the Dynamite and Detonator are at complete opposite sides of the Bunker. What is interesting about the Bunker however is that in theory, you can complete the game by using the first tool and weapon you get – the Windable Flashlight and Revolver. So long as you reverse the Emergency Lockdown to open up the rest of the Bunker, players can go ahead and hit just those primary objectives detailed on the piece of paper beside the detonation box at the exit. But to get the Arsenal Code, you need to find the Communications Key to get inside the Communications Room.

Inside the Communications Room you can go ahead and listen to the code by interacting with the Radio on the desk. Once you have this, you need to head to the Arsenal, located at the far south of the map. The Arsenal’s entrance is incredibly dark and covered in holes for the Beast to easily crawl out of if you make too much noise. If you are playing on Normal or Hard, we actually recommend temporarily turning your Gamma all the way up just until you input the Arsenal Code to get inside.

How to Get the Dynamite in Arsenal

What to Bring With You

Once you have got past the Arsenal door with the four-digit code (this is always randomized for every playthrough), you can begin your slow excursion of pure stealth mode. Imagine you are Snake in MGS, but more brave of course. For this part of the Bunker we recommend having the Bolt Cutters, bullets for your Revolver and either Flares or a Torch. You should also take either 2 Medkits or 3 Bandages. We also highly recommend that you top the Generator up fully (requires 4 Fuel Containers) before you head into the Arsenal. Finally, be sure to have 1 slot open for the Dynamite Bundle.

This is perhaps a strange tip but we recommend that before you go to the Arsenal that you go all the way to Prison and make noise to lure the Beast away. Then head to the Arsenal without making too much noise (crouching if you are on Hard Mode). This will give you a bit of time to get around the Arsenal and into Explosives Storage. The area is not too big for you to get lost in, nor will you find that you have ran out of cloth for your lit Torch during the road to obtaining the Dynamite. Follow the path to the left and move the crate and barrel out of the way. This is likely going to alert the Beast to your location.

The Route to the Explosives Storage

If the Beast comes out to play, be sure to have your Revolver at the ready with bullets already loaded in. The Beast will always go to the exact place you made noise so if you cannot hide behind cover, you will need to shoot when he sees you. Always refer to the flickering lights for his presence. When he goes, the lights will go back to normal. When you go to the right you will have two paths ahead of you, but you can avoid this all together by going right instead and opening the metal gate. Go through and turn left where you will need to jump over a pile of broken wooden boxes. This will allow you to avoid Rats all together if you do not have a quiet means of dealing with them.

If you do not want to climb over the boxes, the left aisle is booby-trapped so take the right as they both go to the same place. You have multiple options to deal with the Rats. You can either use a Torch or Flare to scare the Rats away or go crazy and shoot the Gas Canister on their left. If you choose the final option, you need the Gas Mask to get past.

Once you get past the Rats go left and crawl until the table to get to the other side. There is a lot of junk (containers, metal and wood) on the ground which makes a noise if you go through it so be sure to watch where you step at all costs and be aware of where the holes are at all times in the Arsenal. Keep going forward and then turn right. You will find three aisles here. Choose the middle with 2 wooden barrels.

Move the right barrel slightly forward so you can squeeze in between. Again be sure to avoid all trash on the ground, even skeletal remains as it all makes noise. It helps to have Gamma turned up here so that you can see what is close in front of you. If you do not want to do that, use a Lighter or Torch and keep your eyes on the ground whilst listening out for the Beast.

Keep following the path all the way around until you reach 3 wooden planks. You need to remove these to get past. Simply interact, hold and pull. Make sure that you are placing them on the floor as gently as possible. This will bring you to a well lit hiding spot, as you can see there is a table here as an option in case the Beast comes out to play. Now you need to do something stupid here and that is jump onto the table and across to the falling shelving unit opposite you. Drop down, turn right and there is another booby-trap. Either jump over or use Bolt Cutters. Round the corner and head straight for the Explosive Storage which contains the Dynamite.

Picking up Dynamite Bundle and Exiting Alive

Frictional Games have very kindly placed a save spot in this room so pick up the Dynamite on your left and save here as you need to get out of the Arsenal alive. Hopefully you have been paying attention to your route as you will need to take it back to get out alive. In summary, exit the Storage go right, move box to climb over the shelving unit. Then go forward past the table and through where you moved the wooden planks. Turn left and take second aisle back through. Then left again and ignore the Beast’s hole directly in front of you. Crawl under table once again and then go left for the pile of boxes or right, through the Rats who will appear again if you were not able to kill them. Finally, head forward to reach the Arsenal door.

From here you can either head all the way back to the Administrator’s Office or dive straight into the Roman Tunnels, your choice.
