Where to Find Lighter in Amnesia: The Bunker

How to make a Horror Game scarier? Lighter only gameplay.

The Beast is not the only thing you need to be worried about in The Bunker. There are many moments when you will need to get past hoards of Rats. They will block corridors and Dog Tags stopping you from progressing. In order to get past them in the quietest, easiest way possible without taking any damage, the Lighter is required. Although you can play Amnesia: The Bunker in any order you want after lifting Lockdown, you may find that getting the Lighter first before anything else will help you out in the long run. After all, changing your plans in any way can result in never finding that precious Lighter. This is Vincent’s guide on how to get the Lighter in Amnesia: The Bunker.

How to Get Lighter in Amnesia: The Bunker

In Amnesia: The Bunker everything is randomized, from codes to location of items. Whilst the tools you will need to survive on your adventure can primarily be found inside the Mission Storage Lockers, you may find that the Dog Tags you need that holds the codes to unlock these doors are not always in the same place. For that reason, we cannot specifically tell you the code or if the location of the Dog Tag is in a set spawn. However, after going into 4 separate playthroughs of The Bunker I have found what appears to be some kind of system in place for the spawning of Dog Tags. This is that the Giraud Dog Tag (Lighter Locker) can be found in the Foreman’s Quarters, however there is a catch and that is you can only find Giraud’s Dog Tag if you head to the Quarters first before trying to get any other tool in the game.

I have noticed that if I pick up the Wrench first and then go to the Quarters, I will likely find Laval’s Dog Tag (Gas Mask). But if I check the Break Room first in Maintenance and then the Quarters, I will find Boucher’s Dog Tag on the desk inside. For this reason, we highly recommend that you go to get the Lighter first in your playthrough, after lifting the Emergency Lockdown with the Valve. You should be able to get the Lighter via Foreman’s Quarters in Maintenance. The best bit? The door to the Quarters is unlocked, so it should be an easy trip to Maintenance and Mission Storage to pick up the Lighter.

You will need to walk through the Officer Quarters first, going downstairs on the second right in the corridor. There are Rats here where if you time your running jump just before the first Rat, you should be able to get past without taking damage. Of course, this is not guaranteed so if you do not want to take any damage whatsoever, you can use a Flare to get past them instead. Once you are in Maintenance, the map can be easily picked up inside the Clerk’s Office (Rats Keep Out door). Just pull on the wooden boards to get inside. The Foreman’s Quarters is the second room on your left (refer to the signs on the ceiling for its location). You will find the Dog Tag on the desk inside the room.

There is a chance that Giraud’s Dog Tag is not in this room and if that is the case, I cannot provide you with another location for it. Strangely, everytime I get another tool (Wrench, Gas Mask, Shotgun, etc) the Dog Tag in the Foreman’s Quarters changes. But if I grab it straight after lifting Lockdown, Giraud’s Dog Tag is always there inside the Quarters. Use the code obtained from the Tag at Mission Storage in the Central Bunker.

How to Use the Lighter

The Lighter is definitely a last resort when used on its own. It provides very little light in terms of its radius of use. You will find that you can only see what is to your immediate left or right and not what it in front of you. Really, the Lighter should only be brought out in case you are in a Blackout. Other than that, you should use the Lighter to make Torches. To do so, you need 1 Cloth and 1 Stick. Combine these items the same as making Bandages. So long as you have the Lighter in your Inventory, all you need to do is equip the Torch and hold interact key, this will light it on fire. The Torch does not last long in comparison to other tools however it is helpful for Blackouts and a safe bet to scare away Rats.

You should use the Torch inside the Workshop in Maintenance as there is a lot of Rats to deal with which can be a problem if you do not have Flares. In the Inventory you can see how long the Torch will last for. It is similar to the Lantern system in Amnesia: The Dark Descent. If you are using Torches, you will always need the Lighter in your Inventory, meaning that it is always taking up a slot. If you put away your Torch to bring out another item and do not have your Lighter in your Inventory, the Torch will not relight. But if you put away the Torch to use another tool and then bring it back out whilst the Lighter is in your Inventory, the Torch will relight.
