There are few action game scenarios that cannot be immediately turned in your favor with the help of a good shotgun. Nothing punctuates your disapproval to bloodthirsty cannibals and mutants like an on-demand wall of hot buckshot. Of course, since it’s a survival game, Sons of the Forest isn’t going to just hand you a shotty. Here’s how to get a shotgun in Sons of the Forest.

How to Get Shotgun in Sons of the Forest

As you’d expect, the shotgun is a powerful weapon in Sons of the Forest, good for emergency situations where you’re surrounded by hostiles and need to quickly and succinctly knock down the proverbial wall of flesh. Of course, given its power, both the gun itself and its ammunition are a bit hard to come by. Shotgun Shells spawn very rarely inside of caves, which means you should conserve the shells you have. As for the gun, well, we’re getting to that.

Before you can obtain the shotgun, you need two things:

  • A GPS Locator to pinpoint the shotgun’s precise location
  • A Shovel to dig up the grave it’s buried in

The spot is a bit of a trek from safe territory, so make sure you’ve got enough supplies for a hike and are ready for any potential encounters.

Using your GPS tracker, make your way toward the southeast corner of the island. It’s mostly hills and grasslands around here, but as you approach the coastline, you’ll eventually come across a landmark: a patch of bare dirt with a cross staked into the ground. Congrats, you’ve found the grave.

Take out your shovel and dig into the bare ground in front of the cross to uncover a wooden casket. The cover will collapse on its own once it’s fully uncovered, revealing the corpse of a soldier cradling the shotgun within. He’s not using it anymore, so go ahead and grab it. The shotgun’s in good shape and ready to be used, so store it in your pack for later.

Remember, Shotgun Shells are very sparse, so save that thing for when you’re in a really sticky situation. Nothing clears out those clogs like a spray of hot death.
