How to Get Jolly Redd in Animal Crossing New Horizons

Jolly Redd is a new character introduced into Animal Crossing New Horizons in the 1.2.0 April update. Players can purchase paintings, sculptures, and furniture from Jolly Redd’s Treasure Trawler. Be on the lookout, because some of his pieces of art might actually be counterfeit.

To get Jolly Redd to show up, you’ll have to follow a few steps.

• Talk to Isabelle the next day
• Look for Redd wandering around your island
• Buy the art from Redd
• Donate the art to Blathers
• Visit the museum the next day
• Go back to Redd to unlock Jolly Redd’s Treasure Trawler

Talk to Blathers and Isabelle

First, talk to Blathers and he will tell you some good news about the museum which will now be able to display fine works of art. He mentions you should show him any new pieces of art you come across. The day after speaking with Blathers, Isabelle will mention that she’s seen a suspicious-looking character visiting the islands in the area.

Look for Redd

Now, you should head into town and start looking for the suspicious character Isabelle was talking about. You will see Redd wandering around somewhere on your island, and you need to go and speak with him.

Buy the Art

Redd will mention he brought a famous painting with him and will try and sell it to you for an obscene amount of Bells. After being shocked at the price, he will try and offer it to you again for a friend’s discount. The new price is about 1% of the original asking price, and you should buy it to trigger the next event.

Donate the Art

After buying the painting, head to Blathers and have him check out the new piece of art you just got from Redd. Donate the piece of art to Blathers and he will then be able to apply for a museum expansion to start an art exhibit.

Visit the Museum

The next day, Blathers will announce the opening of an Art Gallery in the Museum. You can head into the museum and check out the piece of art you donated in there.

Unlock Jolly Redd’s Treasure Trawler

Now you can go back out and look for Redd again. Speak with him when you find him, and he’ll mention his boat is anchored out at the shore. He will disappear after that dialogue and you can head over to the shore to find Jolly Redd’s Treasure Trawler.
