Sons of The Forest is a horror survival game that brings with it an enormous dose of reality and puts you in situations worrying about things that you would necessarily have to worry about if you found yourself stranded on an unknown shore.
Luckily for you, you are not the only survivor, and from early on in the game, you have an NPC companion Kelvin that can make things easier for you if you know how to cooperate with him properly. Here’s a guide on how to command Kevin effectively and prepare for the threats that lurk around.

Effectively Commanding Kelvin in Sons of the Forest
You will get Kelvin as a companion soon after crashing and scavenging for some supplies. You will need to interact with him and soon you’ll understand that he doesn’t speak and can’t hear and that you’ll have to develop a special way of communicating with him.
The first step for effectively commanding Kelvin when playing Sons of the Forest is to use a notepad since he is deaf and mute. Point your mouse to Kelvin and press “E” to get your character to pull up a notepad and choose one of the commands listed there.
You can tell Kelvin to either take an item, follow you, get (something), build (something), stay in place, take a break, and clear the surroundings. Keep in mind that he will not follow commands when he is frightened or when he is tired (he will take a break on his own then).
To make the best out of this NPC, it’s wise to plan ahead. If you are going to pick up stones, issue him a command to pick up other building materials such as sticks. Tell him to follow you when you think it’s safe and as soon as you sense danger tell him to stand his ground and hide.
Alternatively, you can arm him so he can defend himself. When you notice that he has been working a lot tell him to take a break, thus preventing him from doing it himself in a future moment when you might need him direly.
All in all, Kelvin isn’t a must-have for playing the game but he does help a lot when you know how to use him. He can definitely help you do things much faster as two pairs of hands are better than one. Lastly, if you happen to be playing Sons of The Forest with a friend, remember that you can only have one Kelvin.
