Is Sons of the Forest a Prequel?

Endnight Games’ 2018 survival horror title, The Forest, shook the PC gaming landscape with its innovative and deeply interesting gameplay. Set on a seemingly deserted island following a plane crash, players would have to live off of the land and fend off merciless cannibals and demons as they try to last as long as they can with the little they’re given to use.

And as one chapter comes to a close, another page turns. With a new title from The Forest series, Sons of the Forest, players are wondering how they’re connected. Specifically, many players are wondering if Sons of the Forest is a prequel. So, today we’ll explain whether or not Sons of the Forest is in fact a prequel to The Forest, and how it connects in the grand scheme of things.

Is Sons of the Forest a Prequel?

For the case of whether Sons of the Forest is a prequel or not to The Forest, the answer is that it actually isn’t. In fact, Sons of the Forest is a direct sequel to the original. Though Sons of the Forest will see players assuming the role of a new protagonist who is unwittingly dropped into another cannibal-infested island that we know as Site 2, a location revealed at the end of The Forest.

This game’s premise is made up of your character heading to Site 2 in hopes of finding a billionaire gone missing. And as you may have assumed, things don’t go very well for our hero. Because, just like in the first game, they have to survive against the harsh island along their journey.

And this game really is going to be another step up from the first game. Not only has gameplay itself been refined, but there’s a lot more to craft and scavenge for around Site 2. The island this time around is also massive, quadrupling the size of The Forest’s map size. So there’s a lot to be excited about.
