How to Fix the “Update Failed” Error in Warframe

Don't throw your computer just yet.

In my experience, the worst type of errors are the ones that prevent you from even playing the game in the first place. Unable to update type of errors are the worst, specially because nowadays, you must update your game to the latest version if you wish to play, specially for online multiplayer games such as Digital Extreme’s Warframe. It’s basically the modern red ring of death, and several players have reported the “Update Failed” error throughout the game’s existence. Don’t worry, today I’ll show how to fix the “Update Failed” error in Warframe.

How to Fix the “Update Failed” Error in Warframe

Since there are a bunch of methods in which you could possibly fix the “Update Failed” error in Warframe, I’ll list them all and hopefully one of them would do the job for you. Don’t get frustrated, there are a lot of steps you can take and hopefully get your game running in no time.

  • Do nothing. Yes, that’s an option! Usually when there is a big update in Warframe, their servers just say “nope” and basically go on vacation for a little bit. So maybe waiting is the right solution. If you’re impatient, like me, then that’s a no-no. Let’s continue.
  • Restart your game’s launcher, whether it is Steam or Epic Games. This will force them to reconnect to the game’s server.
  • Run the game as an administrator. Right-click on the launcher shortcut and click Properties > Compatibility > Change settings for all users > Run this program as an administrator > Apply. This will save any write permissions with your game, and potentially solve the issue.
  • Disable any antivirus software you have available, momentarily. Update and then reactivate.
  • Be sure your internet connection is running. Check for any faulty connections, Ethernet cables and, of course, restart your modem.
  • Open Command Prompt and run this commands one by one:
ipconfig/flushdns ipconfig/release ipconfig/release6 ipconfig/renew
  • Reinstall Windows C++ Redistributable Libraries. Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > Uninstall a Program. Look for Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package and click Modify. Repair each library’s version.
  • Reinstall DirectX. Download the installer from the official website. Install and then restart your computer.
  • On the Warframe launcher, under Settings, uncheck the Bulk Download option. If it works, after the update, check it back again.
  • On the Warframe launcher, try changing your language back and forth. Sometimes that will do the trick.
  • On the Warframe launcher, click on Verify under the Download Cache section.
  • Use a VPN to download the update. It’s a little extreme, but it may work for you.
  • Finally, you can always perform Windows Updates (you and I know that you haven’t updated for years, this could be the root of all evil).

There are quite a bit of options, so let’s hope one of them does the job for you. If not, don’t rage-quit just yet. Like I said before, maybe waiting is the best option of the bunch. Good luck!
