You ever think about how much potential we waste falling vertically from high places? All that perfectly good air and all we’re doing is tumbling through it to our sudden deaths. It’s criminal, I say, and I won’t stand for it! It’s time to put that air to good use and take to the skies! Here’s how to find and use the Hang Glider in Sons of the Forest.
How to Find and Use Hang Glider in Sons of the Forest
The Hang Glider, or just the Glider for short, is a tool in Sons of the Forest that you can use to catch the wind at high elevations and ride it through the sky. Not only is this a great way to land safely from a long fall, but it’s also a fantastic means of unimpeded travel. After all, the vast majority of cannibals and mutants in the forest are ground-bound, so if you can take to the skies, your travels will be much safer.

To use the Glider, all you need to do is pick it up and hold it in your hand like you would any regular object. While the Glider is in your right hand, its function will kick in automatically when you fall from a high place: it’ll catch the wind and begin slowing your descent to about 1/4 of its usual rate. In this state, you can use your normal movement controls to tilt the Glider’s orientation, pointing it up to gain altitude or down to pick up speed. By alternating between rising and falling on the wind, you can soar over a large portion of the map. The only catches are that you can’t use any weapons or open your inventory while gliding, and you can’t carry it up ropes or zip lines.

You can find a ready-made Glider, all built and ready to go, on the south side of the big, snowy mountain near the middle of the island. You can make your way here pretty early on in the game, so long as you’re ready to brave some low temperatures.
As you make your way around the mountain, keep an eye out for abandoned camps. The exact spawn location of the Glider isn’t quite static, but the one constant is that it shows up at an abandoned camp at a relatively high altitude on the southwest side of the mountain. As soon as you stumble upon an abandoned camp, you should find the Glider buried in the snow, at which point you can just grab it and start using it.
Admittedly, considering where it was left, there’s a nonzero chance someone died using that Glider, but that’s a small price to pay in the face of aerial superiority, right?
