How to Defeat Possessed Maya in The Chant

The Chant has a lot of iconic moments that happen throughout, and it’s due to the impactful way that Brass Token utilized horror. The instant possessions of our cast can be a brutal thing to watch, as you see their humanity ripped from them.

Capping off the first half of The Chant sees Jess and Maya meeting at the Lighthouse following Maya disappearing to chase a Gloom version of her son. After some puzzle-solving that typically comes with each chapter in the Chant, you’ll be tasked with fighting a possessed Maya in one of the more complex battles that the game puts you in.

How to Defeat Possessed Maya in The Chant

After you pour the mercury into the Lighthouse’s generator and then turn the crystals to direct the green Prism’s energy back to the Lighthouse’s structure you’ll come face to face with a possessed Maya who refuses to let you leave. Once you finish out the cinematic that plays, you’ll have to fight Maya.

She’s a floating enemy who is pretty quick and can even use some Mind Attacks. It’s best to use some throwables on her in order to stun her, and then go in for quick melee attacks. Following your first successful stand against her, you’ll need to head to one of the crystals on either side of the Lighthouse that is directing the green Prism’s light to it.

This is where you’ll encounter the Mandaphores; mini-flying Gloom enemies that float in flocks together. You’ll need to direct the light at them in order to take them out. The Mandaphores will attack you, so be sure to hit the ones closest to you first.

After defeating them, you’ll need to fight Maya again, just do the same thing you did the first time as she doesn’t change up her fighting style. Be sure to utilize the crafting items around the fighting area as well as the ones for Mind, Body, and Spirit. Once you fend her off, you’ll need to go to the other crystal and hit out some more waves of the Mandaphores with the crystal’s light. The difficulty isn’t amped up here either, so just keep trucking.

As soon as you defeat the swarms, you’ll fight Maya one last time, in a similar fashion to the last two. Just keep using those throwables followed by melee attacks and you’ll be set up to win. Once you’ve hit her enough, you’ll win and get her green Prism for yourself as well as unlock the ability to fast-travel around the island.
