The Firefly Squid is one of many deep-sea creatures in the game. You probably already know how to catch these critters, but we’ll explain just in case. Grab a wet suit and start swimming in the waters around your island. Look for bubbles coming out of the water with a small shadow size on the surface. Dive down and see what it is.

A small shadow could be indicative of a few different sea creatures, including the Firefly Squid, Flatworm, Acorn Barnacle, or Sea Slug. If you want to catch the Firefly Squid, make sure to search between 9 pm and 4 am. The months for the Northern Hemisphere are March through June and September through December in the Southern Hemisphere.

While the speed is slow, it is not the slowest in the game like the Sea Star or Sea Slug, for instance. You will still need to fast swim after the Firefly Squid to catch it. However, you won’t have any issues as you would chasing after a Giant Gigas Clam or Vampire Squid. That’s everything you need to know about catching a Firefly Squid in Animal Crossing New Horizons. Good luck finding one out in the waters for yourself and completing that Critterpedia.
