Beating Death is possible with the right tricks up your sleeve.

When playing Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania Death will be one of your first bosses to fight. We can call him the introductory boss as this is the first time you will get a feel of boss fights in this game and how prepared you need to be for them.

Fighting Death is no joke (duh!) but some strategies and tactics can prepare you for this fight and you can definitely win without being a pro. Read on to fully understand what this battle will look like.

Fighting Death in Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania

To beat Death in Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania you would need to know a couple of things like what kind of terrain you’re fighting on, how he moves and what attacks Death has up his sleeve. We investigated this for you and here’s the breakdown.

Weapon Choice for fighting Death

As soon as you start fighting Death you will notice that he is really mobile, flying all the time and frequently changing positions. This is why my personal choice here would be focusing on strong ranged weapons. Death will be throwing a lot of things at you or summoning spells so a lot of the time you will need to be focused on evading and dodging. So, throwing things at him will be your best bet for winning.

If you want to use melee to kill Death, that can be done as well of course but in that case, the timing would be crucial. You would need to time your attacks correctly and use the two platforms on the map to get to him when he’s flying. Death will have a shield around him at some points so you need to work around that as well since you don’t want to fight all your way to him just to find out that you can’t damage him.

Things to Look Out for From Death

One of the first mechanics you’ll notice is that Death will get orbs circling around him as you damage him. These don’t matter much in the early stages of the fight as he would have two or three, but as he gets lower with his HP he will have as many as 5 or 6 orbs and that can really hurt and make it virtually impossible for you to fight him with melee attacks.

Also, in the early stages Death will throw small sickles at you that can be easily dodged or even repelled with some ranged weapons (another argument for their use in this fight). But, as you take out more of his HP he will start to use his big scythe to not only attack you but throw it at you as well. This is one of the attacks you should be aware of as the scythe flies quickly and does a lot of damage.

In the end, Death will throw tracking orbs on you that can be really annoying. These will disperse after about 3 seconds so all you need to do is just run away until they disappear since they can’t be dodged.

Rewards for Killing Death in Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania

Some would say that the biggest reward for defeating Death is remaining alive but gamers know better and will be like “where’s my loot?!”. Well, you’re exactly right on that and a successful fight with this Death will not leave you empty-handed.

You will get plenty of gold, 40 cells, and a couple of different blueprints. If it’s your first time killing Death you’ll get Death’s Scythe weapon blueprint, if you’re killing Death for a second time you will get the blueprint for Death’s Outfit and if you manage to kill him without taking a hit you will get a Flawless Death Outfit blueprint.

When it comes to achievements killing Death will give you a “Death comes for us all… but not for you!” achievement, while doing the same without taking a hit will grant you a “Dodge Death” achievement.
