How Many Villagers Should You Have in Age of Empires 2

It takes a village(rs)

Age of Empires is all about building and growth. However, if you don’t keep an eye on literally everything as your civilization builds, it will fall apart fast. They say the most important thing in a kingdom is its people and that’s pretty true of this game. You will really want to focus on your villagers’ population growth as you advance forward. With that in mind, it’s good to strategize on your population before you advance to the next age every time. Here’s all you need to know on how many villagers you should have in Age of Empires 2.

Villager Population

Your villager population, or pop cap, is very important to keep up with. As you start out in the very beginning villager growth can be quite slow. This might be where you want to build your growth up the most before going on to the next age so you don’t get overwhelmed.

Keep in mind you’ll need buildings to keep up with your villager population. Houses, Town Centers, and Castles are what help you grow and manage your population. You’ll need to constantly build them. Another important note is that the overall population limit is 200 for the entire game.

How Many Villagers Per Age

With all that in mind, your first Age you should probably have at least 15 to 25 before going to the next one. 15 if you still want a slow challenge and 25 if you want to start speeding through things ab it quickly. Though it might be a bit difficult to get to 25 in your first age and you might be pressured by the game to evolve into the next age.

In your Second Age, you want around roughly 30 or so villagers before going on to the Third Age. By then in your Third Age, things can get a bit tricky. You might be ok with about 40 to 50 villagers going into your Fourth Age.

However, the Fourth Age is the final age so you may want to take your time in the Third Age. If you want a booming and powerful Empire, try to have at least 100 or so villagers by the time you enter the Fourth Age. You should get much more out of the game and the Fourth Age this way without too many mishaps.

That’s really all you have to focus on in terms of population growth. How you get there and how long it takes will still be up to you on the choices you make and the buildings you create.
