Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition: How to Rotate Buildings

Building an Empire

We always want the most out of games. Every command, control, and aspect we wish to utilize to its full potential. Especially with remakes and versions of games labeled Definitive Edtion. Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition is both a 20th-anniversary remaster and the ultimate expansion of Age of Empires II: Age of Kings. With such a huge improved overhaul for the game, many were hoping old problems were fixed. Many have been, but there are a few aesthetic junkies who are wanting the most out of it. It’s been a long desire in Age of Empires to be able to rotate buildings around for more possibilities and different looks. So here’s how, if you can, rotate buildings in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition.

How to Rotate Buildings

So we don’t get anyone’s hopes up, let’s just cut to the chase. You can not actually “rotate” buildings in this remastered edition. You can press the Q key specifically on houses to rotate some of their angles, however, you can’t with any other buildings. This is likely due to it being a remaster of the game, not a remake. The graphics are updated significantly but to add the rotate feature that wasn’t in the original game would mean adding graphics of buildings that did not yet exist.

Sadly, you just can’t add new graphics to an updated game when it’s not a remade game. Age of Empires II: DE adds a lot of new expansion content. However they most likely all follow the game rules as the buildings and features of the original version of the game.

Rotating would be really cool but sadly no Age of Empires game has this feature. It is likely just too much work to do a full 4-sided rendering of the hundreds and hundreds of buildings you get in these massive games. Not an unreasonable assumption and possibly just too much of a demand. Although I don’t think this takes away any of the fun and creativity that Age of Empires has had over the years as it expands past new horizons.
