One of the best additions to Midnight Suns‘ core gameplay mechanics is the addition of a combo card system. Firaxis Games have spent a massive amount of time crafting and fine-tuning the mechanics of this game, and the combo system works wonders. A combo card brings together two of your heroes for one devastating mix-up attack against an enemy. Understanding how combos work in Midnight Suns will help the player pull off some devastating attacks against the hordes of demons placed in front of you. Let’s just hope Lilith doesn’t have any combo attacks of her own up her sleeve.
How Combos Work in Midnight Suns
Before you can start using combos in a fight, the player will need to build up their heroism. A resource that is used during your missions on extra powerful cards. Some cards, such as a hero combo, require a certain amount of heroism in order to use the card. As skill cards grant more heroism than normal attack cards, players will want to switch up the card types they use if they want to gain some heroism fast. Due to the nature of these combos being so strong, you are only about to use a hero combo once during a fight, so choose carefully.
The card art also shows which characters are going to be used and when they’ll attack during the combo. For example, if you have a hero combo that has the Hulk’s symbol on the left half and the Hunter’s symbol on the right, Hulk will lead the attack allowing for the Hunter to attack second before ending the combo with a Hulk smash. Any buffs currently on either of the characters taking part in the combo will also carry over to their combo attack.

Balancing which cards you build heroes’ decks will require a bit more thought thanks to these combo cards. Some people might try and stack their deck by putting as many heroic cards in it as possible. This usually ends up backfiring as they are not able to use any of these cards during battle, due to them costing to much. Knowing how combos work in Midnight Suns will not only help you out when using them, it will help you build your decks for success.
