How to Sprint in Fortnite

While Fortnite has never had a shortage of movement methods, plain old running has never been a major focus. The point of Fortnite, after all, is to construct cover, leap from high places, and sneak around. If you’re just running around out in the open, you’re gonna get shot. However, with Chapter 3 Season 2 bringing a major change to the gameplay, it may be prudent to get yourself a proper pair of running shoes. Here’s how to sprint in Fortnite.

Building is currently disabled in Fortnite, which means that rather than hiding and sneaking, you need to prioritize fast movement and parkour to keep your skull bullet-free. To aid in this, a new sprint ability has been introduced to the game, one that should feel familiar if you’ve played just about any other shooter.

How to Sprint in Fortnite

To sprint in Fortnite, all you have to do is press the left Shift key on your keyboard, or, if you’re playing with a controller, click in the left joystick. Your character will break out into a sprint, moving much faster than usual, as well as automatically hopping up and over small ledges.

When you start sprinting, a white stamina meter will appear above your health on the bottom left of the screen. When that meter empties out, you can’t sprint again until it refills. Your stamina will refill on its own whether you’re standing still or jogging, though sliding will pause its refill. Your stamina doesn’t need to be full to start sprinting again, though it may be prudent to let it fill all the way up when you can, just so you don’t have to keep starting and stopping.
