There are two ways to find nuts and bolts in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 7:

  • Search for red toolboxes
  • Buy them from Rick Sanchez

Red Toolboxes

Red Toolboxes are scattered throughout the Fortnite island. They look like your run-of-the-mill toolbox, and each one contains a single set of nuts and bolts.

If you want to make things simple, you can head over to the Rick Sanchez character at the Defiant Dish location. He stocks eight nuts and bolts and sells each for 25 Gold Bars. To complete the challenge, you’ll need to use three of them in crafting, which equates to 75 Gold Bars. However, if you’re running low on Gold Bars, you’ll probably be better off searching for the toolboxes.

Nuts and bolts show up in your inventory like any other crafting material. In Fortnite, you can use nuts and bolts to modify your weapons. Press your inventory hotkey, and navigate to the crafting tab. Select the weapon you want to upgrade, and tap on the yellow craft button.

The resulting weapon is technically a sidegrade, effectively changing the type of weapon you’re using. Here are all of the nuts and bolts recipes in Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 7, as of week three:

  • Tactical Shotgun -> Lever Action Shotgun
  • Submachine Gun -> Rapid Fire SMG
  • Assault Rifle -> Burst Assault Rifle

For upgrading a weapon during Season 7, you should receive a legacy milestone. Also, it’s important to note that you can only obtain these weapons through crafting with nuts and bolts. The cost is always one set of nuts and bolts, regardless of weapon rarity.
