All you need to do to hire any of these characters is visit their location on the map, speak with them, and then exchange 95 Gold Bars to recruit them. After hiring an NPC, they will follow you around with a weapon in hand. It’s useful to know that the NPCs aren’t the quickest bunch, so they may trail behind you a bit.

To complete the weekly challenge, you will need to keep them alive. Luckily, you can complete these challenges over a few matches. That means you won’t have to worry about knocking it out all in one match in the unfortunate event that an enemy takes out your recruit.

There you have it, that’s how to hire a character and travel 1,000 meters with them in Fortnite. Feel free to use the map above for reference if you’re not sure where to find characters that you can hire in Fortnite.
