How to Activate Mohg’s Great Rune in Elden Ring

Here's everything you need to know about how to activate Mohg's Great Rune in Elden Ring

All of the Demigods in Elden Ring are in possession of fragments of the titular artifact, known as the Great Runes. These Great Runes have long since lost their luster, their powers drained away by the Demigods in the time since the Shattering first created them. When you defeat a Demigod, you get their Great Rune, but you can only unlock their true abilities by restoring their powers at their corresponding Divine Tower. One particularly tricky Great Rune is the one held by Mohg, Lord of Blood. Here’s how to activate Mohg’s Great Rune in Elden Ring.

Mohg hangs out in Mohgwyn Palace, a giant mausoleum situated in the far east of the subterranean region of the Siofra River. There are a few roundabout means of getting access to the palace, though the fastest one is actually to complete the quest for White-Faced Varre that nets you the Bloody Finger item (which we just so happen to have a guide for). After Varre gives you the Bloody Finger, talk to him a couple more times, and he’ll provide you with the Pureblood Knight’s Medal which, when used from your inventory, immediately warps you to the front door of Mohgwyn Palace. Hope you’re ready for a lot of bleeding, because both Mohg and his minions are big fans of it.

After you’ve successfully staunched Mohg’s flow and received his Great Rune, the next thing you need to do is find its corresponding Divine Tower. This may be a bit confusing, as most Divine Towers are in the same region as the Demigod who holds their corresponding Great Rune. There aren’t any Divine Towers in Siofra River, however (there’s no room!), so where do you activate Mohg’s Rune?

Well, if you’ve read the lore, you’d know that Mohg is actually the twin brother to another of the Demigods, Morgott, the Omen King. Morgott is a mandatory boss you fight in Leyndell, the Royal Capital, and his Great Rune is activated in the nearby Divine Tower of East Altus. Since Mohg is Morgott’s brother, their Great Rune’s are intrinsically linked, meaning the same Divine Tower is used to activate both of them.

Of course, to enter the Divine Tower of East Altus, you’ll first need to defeat its guardians, the Fell Twins. The Fell Twins are a pair of massive, bulbous ogres, one with a giant axe and the other with a massive cleaver. They hit like a freight train, unsurprisingly, but they’re not that smart and they move very slowly. If you can take them on separately and keep them from ganging up on you, they shouldn’t give you too much trouble.

Once the Fell Twins are out of the way, you can enter the Divine Tower of East Altus. Take the elevator up to the top floor, and you’ll see a red sigil you can interact with, which will allow you to activate Mohg’s Great Rune, restoring it to its proper power.

With Mohg’s Great Rune empowered, you can equip it at a Site of Grace and activate it with a Rune Arc. When Mohg’s Great Rune is active, any enemies that your summoned Spirits successfully kill will restore your health. Also, if you successfully invade another player’s world with Mohg’s Great Rune active, you’ll receive a Phantom Great Rune, a consumable that buffs nearby enemies in the Host’s world, just in case you’d like to make life a little harder for them.
