How to Get the Bloody Finger in Elden Ring

Here's everything you need to know about how to get the Bloody Finger in Elden Ring, and a walkthrough for each step of the way.

In Elden Ring, much like in the Souls games and Bloodborne before it, players have the ability to invade each other’s sessions as hostile entities. There are a few reasons why you’d want to do this; invading a session and killing the host will reward you with a considerable amount of Runes, though you could also just do it as a sort of game-sanctioned form of griefing if you’re a lovable jerk. The only hitch with invasion in Elden Ring, though, is that you need a special item to do it, consuming the item in the process. If you want to stick your nose in other peoples’ business endlessly, you’ll need something a little more special. Here’s how to get the Bloody Finger in Elden Ring.

Normally, invading another player’s session necessitates the use of a Festering Bloody Finger. You can find these as dropped loot here and there, and most merchants will sell them for 1,000 Runes a pop. It’s kind of annoying to keep paying up for invasion, though, so if you want to just invade without worrying about consumables, you want to get the Bloody Finger. The Bloody Finger is a special consumable in Elden Ring that can be used infinitely to invade other players’ sessions. To actually get it, though, you’ll need to go through quite a rigmarole.

How to Get the Bloody Finger in Elden Ring

This is going to be an involved process, so if you’re in a rush, here’s the short version:

  1. Go to Rose Church in Liurnia of the Lakes and speak with White-Faced Varre
  2. Invade any three players using Festering Bloody Fingers
  3. Talk to Varre again, who will tell you to obtain a Maiden’s blood, which can be done in one of three ways
    1. Get the key from the highest of the Four Belfries, activate the portal in the second-highest, defeat the Grafted Scion
    2. Explore the Church of Inhibition
    3. Kill Hyetta
  4. Give the bloodied item to Varre, who will give you the Bloody Finger

Go to Rose Church and Speak with White-Faced Varre

First order of business, you need to have defeated the game’s first major boss, Godrick the Grafted. You also need to have unlocked passage to the Roundtable Hold, but odds are good you’ve already done that if you’ve defeated Godrick. After you’ve dealt with Godrick, go to Roundtable Hold and speak with the Two Fingers. With all that done, you’re ready to start in earnest.

You need to find the Rose Church, located in the Liurnia of the Lakes region. It’s in the middle of the lake near Raya Lucaria Academy.

Invade Players using Festering Bloody Fingers

Here, you’ll run into a familiar chap, White-Faced Varre. He’s that guy who was hanging out outside the tutorial area at the beginning of the game and sassing you about being maidenless. Strike up a chat with Varre and he’ll ask you what you think about the Two Fingers, to which you’ll need to respond “They didn’t seem right.” Varre will provide you with 5 Festering Bloody Fingers, as well as a challenge: invade the worlds of at least three other players and attempt to kill them. You don’t necessarily have to win, you just have to try.

Obtain Maiden’s Blood

After you’ve accomplished your little hunt, return to Varre, and he’ll give you another challenge. He provides you with a scrap of white oak cloth known as the Lord of Blood’s Favor, and requests that you cover it with the blood of a Maiden. Any Maiden is fine, Varre’s not picky.

Here’s where this gets complicated: there are actually three possible ways you can finish this errand. Each one ultimately results in you obtaining the blood of a Maiden for your cloth, but some are definitely more involved than others.

Option 1: Kill Hyetta

Wandering around the Lands Between is a blind Maiden named Hyetta. She appears in a few spots around Liurnia of the Lakes, first at the Church of Irith, then near the Lake-Facing Cliffs, the western side of the Purified Ruins, the Gate Town Bridge, and the Bellum Church. Hyetta has her own questline going on, but if you stumble upon her and don’t feel like dealing with the other options, you can kill her and take her blood.

Option 2: Church of Inhibition

In the northeast of Liurnia of the Lakes, a short walk from the region’s Minor Erdtree, you’ll find the Church of Inhibition. This ruined church is completely devoid of life, but that’s just fine because all you need is the Maiden’s corpse inside of it. Just interact with the corpse, and you’ll get the blood.

Option 3: The Four Belfries

This is probably the most involved option, though it may prove satisfying to you in a way you weren’t expecting. On the western side of the like is a location known as The Four Belfries. It’s exactly what it sounds like: four belfries of varying height. In a chest in the highest belfry, you’ll find an Imbued Sword Key.

Use that key in the second-highest belfry to activate a portal to the Chapel of Anticipation, the area you first woke up in at the very beginning of the game. It’s here that you’ll once again be face-to-face with the Grafted Scion, the giant monster that, in all likelihood, completely bodied you when you started Elden Ring. Now’s your chance to get some payback.

After giving the Grafted Scion his long-deserved pummeling, cross the bridge to return to where you began the game, and you’ll find a Maiden’s corpse, rife with blood for your challenge.

Get the Bloody Finger

Once you’ve gotten the Maiden’s blood on the Blood God’s Favor, return to Varre in Rose Church and present it to him. As thanks for your help, Varre will reward you with the Bloody Finger (which is actually one of your fingers that he chops off). You can now use the Bloody Finger from your inventory to invade other players’ worlds to your heart’s content. You monster.

Incidentally, completing this quest will cause your eyes to start glowing with a fiendish red color, but if you’re not into that, you can remove it through the Cosmetics menu.
