Does Playing as a Gryffindor in Hogwarts Legacy Make You “Basic”?

The right choice.

Does playing as a Gryffindor in Hogwarts Legacy make you basic? Well, first off, rude, and second off, does liking vanilla ice cream make you basic or thinking Darth Vader could wipe the floor with Kylo Ren? What about liking french fries and ketchup? Peanut butter and jelly? Point being, there’s nothing wrong with liking the O.G. They’re the original for a reason, so gather around all my fellow Gryffindor peeps so I explain.

Does Playing as a Gryffindor in Hogwarts Legacy Make You “Basic”?

Playing as Gryffindor is basic, but it’s also the right choice. Just like eating three square meals and brushing your teeth twice a day. For many viewers and readers, Gryffindor is their entry into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. While we watched or read about Harry’s struggles, we got to know the common room at Christmas time, the staircase leading up the bedrooms, the Fat Lady painting blocking the entry.

Across seven books and eight movies, we watched as Harry and his Gryffindor friends triumphed over the forces of evil and also won the House Cup (didn’t that always feel rigged in Gryffindor’s favor). Point being, it’s completely valid to want to have that experience as well. In the series, it was always Gryffindor and Slythrin at odds, and the other two houses Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw never got the chance to shine. Their lore was only really expanded after the fact through extended materials.

So basically, I get that you’re jaded Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff house members. I get that it’s now cool to pick on Gryffindor as being the “basic” option, but I implore you to realize that once upon a time, we were all Gryffindors together. Plus, Gryffindor looks better with the red and gold scheme, and no one can change my mind about that fact. It’s iconic for a reason.

But if we’re being honest, no matter your house or creed, when it comes to learning those Unforgivable Spells, we’re all Slythrin.
