Destiny 2: How to Summon Headless Ones in Haunted Sectors

Summoning Headless Ones - there ain't much to it.

During Destiny 2’s Festival of the Lost, summoning Headless Ones in Haunted Sectors is sort of the whole point of the event. It’s the core gameplay loop that keeps FotL engaging for the few weeks it’s here, and it’s how we transform our Spectral Pages into Manifested Pages. Despite that, a lot of people aren’t too sure how to summon Headless Ones in Lost Sectors.

Summoning Headless Ones in Destiny 2 Haunted Sectors is pretty simple. You’ll learn how to do it during the introduction quest for Festival of the Lost. Here’s a refresher in case you need another explanation, though.

To summon Headless Ones in Haunted Sectors, you need to stand in one of the three zones and wait until the progress bar reaches 100%. Once that happens, the zone will disappear and a Headless One will spawn in its place.

When you load into a Haunted Sector, only one zone will spawn at a time. Once you kill three Headless Ones, two of the three zones will start spawning simultaneously. Once you manage to kill 10, no more zones or enemies will spawn until the boss fight. If you have any time left on your timer, then you’ll pretty much just have to sit on your hands until it runs out.

Once the boss fight starts, you’ll start getting more zones again. The boss of each sector’s health bar is split into thirds. When you reach one of the thirds, the boss will put up an invulnerable shield. At this point, more zones will start spawning.

Like before, you need to stand in these zones to summon Headless Ones. Unlike before, though, these ones drop throwable orbs when they die. These throwables are what you’ll be using to get rid of the boss’ shield. You can spawn and kill a max of 15 Headless Ones, at which point the game won’t spawn any more zones for you – if you still need orbs, they’ll spawn somewhere in the middle of the Haunted Sector.

During a Haunted Sector, for every Headless One you kill, one of your Spectral Pages will transform into a Manifested Page at the end of the activity. The cap on this is 10, so once you kill 10 Headless Ones, there’s no real advantage to farming out anymore.
