What is Contexto?
As we mentioned, Contexto is a word-guessing game whose final answer is found by thinking about the context, not the letters themselves. The game has unlimited guesses and the level of closeness to the final secret word is decided by an AI algorithm.
Let’s take a look at the example of my #193 game of Contexto below.

The final solution for game #193 was a ring. The tablet, office, and classroom have almost nothing in common with a ring so they were marked red indicating to me that I wasn’t even close. However, phone and table have something in common with a ring (phone ringing / a ring table) so they were marked with yellow telling me that I’m kind of there but not so close. Lastly, when I hit jeweled and necklace I knew I was getting really close since those answers were colored green.
As you can see in the screenshot above the solution is marked as number 1, and all your guesses with various numbers should indicate to you how close you are to the solution. If you got a word that is positioned from 2 to 300 you will get a green box, 301 to 1500 will give you a yellow box while those above 1500 that is totally unrelated to your word will give you a red box.

Further, you can see in this screenshot what other words the game considered to be a really close guess for the ring. This can help you understand the algorithm behind it and how the game’s AI thinks.

Strategies for Playing Contexto
When playing Contexto you can enter random nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc. until you notice which ones are a close shot. Try following them up to a final solution. It might take a while in the first couple of tries until you figure out how the game thinks.
Keep in mind that the secret word that you need to discover has to be relatable to multiple contexts. So for example “glass” has much more context than “wheelchair”. You can have a wine glass, window glass, glass vase, etc. while a wheelchair will have much fewer context words.
The best thing about Contexto is that you can ask for a customized hint. When you press three dots in the upper right corner you can click Tip and you will get one free guess that should take you toward the final answer. However, there are three levels of tip difficulty so we suggest going into the settings first and choosing what kind of a hint you would like. Tips are great for beginners of Contexto.
