Can You Kill Kelvin in Sons of the Forest? Answered

Friendly Fire?

NPCs can be both a blessing and a curse. In more cases the latter than the former, especially if you get a game over from their accidental demise. It might be easier if we could just … get rid of them, right? I mean, sure — it might be a potentially problematic line of thinking, but they’re NPCs! Surely it’s OK … right?

In Sons of the Forest, you might be wrestling with this line of thinking in regards to Kelvin. In the game, Kelvin is an NPC who can assist you in surviving the hostile conditions you’ve found yourselves in. It’s not as if he can hear or speak, so it’s not as if he can annoy the player in traditional means. I’m looking at you, Elizabeth, from Bioshock Infinite.

So, the only people who’d even ask if you can kill Kelvin in Sons of the Forest are … well … I can’t promise I would trust them as far as I could throw them. But, let’s answer the question anyway … I guess.

Can You Kill Kelvin in Sons of the Forest?

Yes. To deactivate — or kill — Kelvin, simply pick up a weapon and use it to kill your companion. And then, wallow in the depression that comes with knowing you’ve brutally murdered the closest thing you had to a friend in the oppressive world of Sons of the Forest. To add insult to injury, you can’t bring him back, either. Once Kelvin is gone … he’s gone. And there’s nothing you can do about it.

But, if you can stand to keep him around, Kelvin will alert you to the presence of enemies and collect useful items to help you survive a little longer. In this writer’s humble opinion, there don’t seem to be any downsides to keeping Kelvin around. But — the decision is ultimately your own. You monster.
