Can You Change Followers’ Traits in Cult of the Lamb?

It's not a cult without a little brainwashing!

In most cult-related situations, you can usually bet on a good amount of brainwashing going around. When you’re pulling around a bunch of vulnerable people by their nose hairs, you occasionally have to browbeat some inconvenient quirks out of them. Your followers in Cult of the Lamb certainly have no shortage of such traits. Can you change followers’ traits in Cult of the Lamb, though?

Can You Change Followers’ Traits in Cult of the Lamb?

Surprisingly, given all of the indoctrination going around, there is no way to change your followers’ traits in Cult of the Lamb. Your followers’ traits are rolled randomly when you first indoctrinate them, and while you can change their appearances, those traits are fixed.

In the event that you have a follower whose traits are inconveniencing you somehow, whether they be a slow worker, prone to dissenting, or constantly losing Faith, the first thing you should try to do is get them out of the way somehow. If they’re not doing good work, replace them with a different follower. If they’re prone to dissenting or Faith loss, keep them happy and satiated and they’ll stay out of trouble.

In the event that a follower’s traits are proving more trouble than they’re worth, the easiest course of action is to just get rid of them. If you have a jail, you can lock them up in there to get them out of everyone’s way, though it’s a bit inefficient to just let them take up space. Once you’ve unlocked the Murder Follower ability through your doctrines, you can rub them out in the dead of night. Weigh your options carefully before you do this, though, because your other followers will be alarmed if their companion suddenly disappears, and they may lose Faith in you.

The most economic choice to deal with troublesome followers is to sacrifice them in a ritual. Since rituals are a normal part of your cult, they won’t freak your other followers out too badly, you’ll be rid of the annoying follower, and you’ll get tangible benefits out of it!

The bottom line is that, while you can’t change a troublesome follower’s traits to be less annoying, it’s not really that big of a deal to just throw them to the proverbial wolves. Trust me, there are plenty more followers where that one came from.
