Best Turrets in Starfield: A Complete Guide

Pew pew-ing the Pirates out of the sky

Life out in the deep, dark space is not as welcoming as you may have initially thought. Whilst danger naturally lurks within the foreign lands of untapped potential, with Fauna to discover and Mercenaries to deal with on a regular basis, the dangers also follow you out into the great unknown itself. As you spend Credits crafting the greatest Ship to travel across the stars, you will note that the Pioneer has access to weaponry. Mercenaries are not your only problem as an intergalactic explorer, because Pirate Ships often roam across the stars in the attempt to find some great cargo to steal.

How to Get Rarer Turrets and Toggle Auto-Firing?

Starfield offers a variety of Turrets in the game capable of dishing out damage with its auto-firing system, you may find that you cannot use the Turrets to their full potential. This depends on multiple factors if your Turrets are not firing. These are: Enemies are not in range, are not seen as ‘Hostile’, the Turret is a higher level than your Starfield Skills, Turret use can only be used in the Cockpit, etc.

Depending on the reason for your Turrets not firing, you can make sure that your Starship Design is unlocked by spending 12 Skill Tree Points. Upgrading this to Rank 4 will allow you full access to all Turrets available in the game.

Turrets can be purchased in the major cities across the galaxies such as New Atlantis, Red Mile, and The Den. Whilst they are not limited to these locations, New Atlantis offers beginner Turrets which are most appropriately used in the early portion of Starfield, whilst the Red Mile and Den offer rarer goods that are worth your investment and time spent grinding for Credits.

What Turrets Should You Buy and Equip on the Pioneer in Starfield?

The best Turrets you should invest in are the Obliterator 250MeV Alpha Turret and PBO-300 Auto Alpha Turret. Unsurprisingly, these Turrets are the best you can get upon reaching Level 60.

By reaching Level 60, you will have access to all Weapons available for your Pioneer (Beams, Turrets, and Manual Weapons for Mineral farming) when using the Outpost Landing Pad with Ship Build. These are the best, most powerful Turrets you can get in Starfield without a doubt, with high DPS and low power requirements.

The Obliterator 250MeV and PBO-3000 offer a giant radius of firepower (3000+), allowing you to get the jump on Pirate Ships and to outmaneuver incoming fire whilst dishing it back at the same time.

The Obliterator (requires Starship Design – Rank 4) relies on 4 Power with 86 DMG against Hull and Shield making it an unstoppable force against an ambush or when initiating an attack. Although it has a low fire rate, each bullet packs a punch and its Power allows you to place a total of 3 Turrets down on your Ship.

If you are looking for the best of both worlds, however, using the Obliterator in combination with the PBO-300 (Starship Design – Rank 1) is best because of the varying fire rates. Although the PBO packs a smaller punch than the Obliterator with 22 DMG, its high firing rate (4) offers stacking damage that easily meets the Obliterator. Because of this, combining both Turrets at once by placing the Obliterator at the front or back of the Ship, with the PBO on the sides, offers full coverage and allows damage to fly from your Ship in an instant.

What Do You Need for the Best Turrets in Starfield?

For the best Turrets in Starfield, you should have (although not required), both Rank 4 on ‘Starship Design‘ and ‘Automated Weapon System‘ on the Skill Tree. This will allow you to invest, equip, and actually be able to use the auto-firing potential of the Turret you have spent your cash on. In many cases, Turrets can bug out and not fire at all, using the Starship Design and Automated Weapon System will allow you to use these higher-end Turrets with no issues. However, if you are having no trouble with using Turrets in-game, you do not need to worry about the Automated Weapons Skill unless you want to increase damage and reload speed.

Remember that hitting Level 60 is crucial to gaining access to our recommendations – Obliterator 250MeV and PBO-300. Although there are many other Turrets available in the game, such as Disruptor 3340A Auto Alpha Turret and PBO-100 Auto Neutron Turret, saving up for the actual big guns is best for space combat. The Obliterator will set you back 28080 Credits per purchase, whilst the PBO-300 will cost you 15680 Credits. Because of this high price tag, it may be more appropriate to opt for x2 Obliterators or x4 PBO-300 to begin with, with the final goal being to have your Ship covered in these Turrets with varying firing rates.

To get the most damage out of your Turrets, we highly recommend purchasing at least two Turrets. These should be positioned to the rear of the Pioneer so that they can provide both defensive and attacking power to any incoming bullets and ongoing fight. To complete the Pioneer’s defenses, we highly recommend using x2 sets of Turrets (a set at the rear, another set on either side of the ship) so that these Turrets cover all angles.
