The Dragon Ball series is all about the powerful martial arts masters that take on the despots and monsters of the universe in no-holds-barred beatdowns. Dragon Ball: The Breakers is not one of those situations. You are not a martial artist, and you can not beat a monster in a fistfight. As such, rather than brute force or power levels, you need to rely on your wits and strategy to come out on top. Here are the best tips and tricks to survive and win in Dragon Ball: The Breakers.
Best Tips and Tricks to Survive and Win in Dragon Ball: The Breakers
While there’s no objective solution to being trapped in an ageless hellscape with a super-powered monster, there are a few things you can keep in mind to make your stay a little less terrible:
- Focus on Objectives
- Build and Hold Your Change Meter
- Remember Your Active Skills
- Try for an Early Victory
- Don’t be a Hoarder
- Know When to Bail
Focus on Objectives
I know, the prospect of Cell sticking his gross tail in your back and drinking you is frightening, but you’re not gonna escape that situation by cowering in a hole somewhere. The first and foremost thing Survivors need to do is prioritize the completion of escape objectives, i.e. finding the keys to the Super Time Machine. You need to move around, explore the map, open containers, and just generally put yourself out there. Be proactive and contribute to the team effort while you still have a team to contribute to.
Build and Hold Your Change Meter
Secondary to pursuing the Super Time Machine keys should be gathering up Change Power in preparation for a Dragon Change. The power of your Transpheres can serve as both an offensive measure against the Raider, and as a quick get-out-of-death free card thanks to the power of flight. As such, make sure you grab any and all Change Power you find to build up your meter. Make sure you hold onto that meter until you really need it, particularly when the Raider is bearing down on you.
Remember Your Active Skills
Every Survivor is equipped with four Active Skills, which include both abilities like Solar Flare and gadgets like the Saiyan Pod Remote. You need to learn your equipped abilities inside and out, and you need to know the best times to use all of them. The Raider ain’t gonna wait for you to remember you have a grapple line equipped before they blast a hole in your chest. Master the flow of grappling, know the precise trajectory of the Saiyan Pod, flip to face the Raider for a Solar Flare, and so on.

Try for an Early Victory
Besides the Super Time Machine, the Survivors can also win a match by completely depleting a Raider’s HP. At the very beginning of the match, the Raider is fairly weak (relatively speaking), so if you stumble onto them and happen to have a solid means of damaging them (strong weapons, a full change meter, etc.), take your best shot. Once the Raider starts powering up and evolving, you’re not going to get a chance to do that again, so try to take them down while the idea is still feasible.
Don’t be a Hoarder
Picked-up items are a vital component of victory for a Survivor. Barrier Recoveries, Golden Drinks, and of course, the Dragon Balls, can give your team the edge they need to survive. That said, you can’t carry everything yourself, so remember to share the love. If a teammate is injured or struggling, use your items to help them out. If you see something helpful you don’t immediately need, ping it and let someone else grab it.
This advice goes double for the Dragon Balls. No single Survivor should be carrying all of the Dragon Balls at once. It just takes one unlucky run-in with the Raider to lose everything. Instead, divvy the Dragon Balls up among your teammates, and only bring them all together again when you’re ready to summon Shenron.
Know When to Bail
While this is a team effort, the unfortunate fact of the matter is that you can’t save everyone. If a Raider makes it a priority to hunt down a particular Survivor, rushing in to try and help them is just going to get you killed. If the Raider isn’t actively pursuing them, you might be able to sneak in for a rescue, especially if you have other allies nearby to run a distraction. Otherwise, prioritize your own safety.
With practice and a bit of trial and error, you can learn all of the ins and outs of being a Survivor in Dragon Ball: The Breakers. Maybe then you’ll be one of the rare few who doesn’t have to get brought back to life with the Dragon Balls after Goku finishes punching someone.
