Best Talents for Captain in Barotrauma

The basic and maybe the most important role in the submarine is that of the captain. As a captain, you will have access to all doors and containers in the submarine so you are the only one that can move freely wherever you want. There are a couple of options when it comes to creating effective leadership in Barotrauma.

Single Player

If you are playing the single-player game you would want to go for boosting your crew as much as you can so we suggest going for Leading by Example, Helmsman, Trickle Down, and Family talents. Leading by Example will increase the repair speeds, Hulmsman increases the overall efficiency of your submarine and Trickle Down gives all your crew members a skill every time you get one. You can add the general talent Camaraderie here to gain bonus XP when you save everyone in a mission.

Multiplayer

When you’re playing multiplayer with your friends you would want to go for boosting yourself – meaning your damage and resistance. Take Gunsmith general talent to unlock a revolver and then go for Quickdraw, Deputy, Drunken Sailor, Inspiring Presence, and Big Guns talents. These Quickdraw, Drunken Sailor, and Big Guns increase your damage and your resistance, while Deputy and Inspiring Presence give a boost to others around you and provide them with more skill.

Best Talents for Medical Doctor in Barotrauma

When playing Medical Doctor in Barotrauma don’t forget that your focus is on others, not yourself. To start with take Fireman’s Carry and Don’t Die on Me general talents which buff your ability to save people in dire moments when you need to react quickly.

When other talents are in question, take Emergency Response, Dr. Submarine, Gene Tampering, and Miracle Worker. The first two allow you and assistants around you to be more effective in saving people while Gene Tampering gives everyone a small boost in HP and speed. The Miracle Worker is the key talent and the sooner you get to it the better. It allows you to have a Miracle in Progress buff that prevents anyone around you from dying (while you are alive). This can really be OP if you play it smartly and know how to keep yourself alive.

Best Talents for Mechanic in Barotrauma

When you assume the role of the Mechanic you should immediately take the Retrofit general talent that gives your submarine the ability to have hull upgrades from a higher tier. Follow that with Hull Fixer talent and Quickfixer, Tinkerer, Residual Waste, and Heavy Lifting. The first three significantly improve your fixing capabilities while Residual Waste and Heavy Lifting focus on getting and moving materials around.

Another indispensable talent that you should take later on in the game is Robotics. It gives you the opportunity to build 2 drones and up your defensive capabilities.

Best Talents for Security Officer in Barotrauma

Security Officer is here to take care of violent business and because of that, we suggest you go full Rambo style with this one. When it comes to general talents, pick Weaponsmith and Munitions Expertise. The first one gives you Riot Shotgun and SMG recipes and higher quality to any weapon you create, while the Munitions Expertise unlocks SMG magazine and Shotgun shell to go with your new weapons.

When it comes to more specific talents, you should focus on the Gunner part of the talent tree. Go for Commando, Extra Powder, and finally Warlord. Commando and Extra Powder increase your damage with ranged weapons and explosives while the final upgrade Warlord too boosts your ranged attack damage up to 50% and unlocks HMG and HMG magazine. With this build, every monster and person coming aboard your submarine will be obliterated.

Best Talents for Engineer in Barotrauma

For an Engineer go and get Egghead and Sample Collection general talents first. Egghead is a straightforward +100% skill gain speed boost while Sample Collection allows you to construct a Cargo Scooter. Cargo Scooter is an underwater vehicle with light that is great for quick exploration of Alien Ruins or Caves. It is a must-have for every submarine.

Military Applications and Grid Maintener are both equally valuable talents as the first one gives a bonus of 20 to Weapons while the second one gives you +50% repair speed. Heavy Hitter is one that every Engineer should have since this talent unlocks a pool of hardened tools that have notably improved efficiency over their basic versions. Other talents in the tree will depend on your personal needs but when it comes to the final tier talent we strongly advise you to take the Nuclear Option talent. This talent will give you access to Nuclear Shells which immediately unlock your ability to take on even the strongest of enemies, including Latcher about whom we already wrote.

Best Talents for Assistant in Barotrauma

As an Assistant, you don’t have any particular area of expertise. Instead, you are here to boost your crew and you can take an apprenticeship which will be related to one of the 5 other jobs. The apprenticeship can boost some crew members depending on which talents you pick. Think of an Assistant as a drummer that is here to boost morale.

Having said that, the best general talents for Assistant are Crew Layabout and Inspiring Tunes. The first will cost you 40% repair speed but will give all allies around you +25% repair speed and + 10 to all stats. When you combine it with Inspiring Tunes which gives a bonus of 15 to all skills for 10 seconds when you use your Bike Horn, it can really make a difference and get everyone going.

When choosing your Apprenticeship talent be careful which job you pick since you will get the boost for that particular job. Work your way to the Graduation Ceremony talent by picking Logistics System and Treacherous Scum talents. Logistics System unlocks your ability to have Makeshift Shelves and Handheld Itemfinder, both of which help your team immensely. Treacherous Scum is good to pick because it boosts all crew members whose job doesn’t match your apprenticeship, which essentially means that you will boost 4/5 of the jobs there are in the game. The Graduation Ceremony will give you all talents from one random specialization tree of your apprenticeship job’s talent tree. This essentially makes it a multilayered talent – you get one talent while in reality, you receive half a dozen.
