All Possible Romances in Potion Permit

Love is in the air!

There’s plenty of life simulator fun to be had in Potion Permit; this game offers tons of exploring, crafting, potion brewing, ingredient gathering, and more! You’ll spend days upon days gathering and creating things, which are both incredibly important, but you’ll also spend plenty of time befriending the villagers of the small town of Moonbury. But why stop at befriending? There are plenty of opportunities for friendship in this game, but are there any romance options in Potion Permit?

Despite Potion Permit not being a dating sim, there are plenty of romance options available to players! Not everyone is romanceable, but there are at least a few select bachelors and bachelorettes of Moonbury that are down with dating. This is a list of all of the possible romance options in Potion Permit!

List of Romantic Candidates and How to Romance Them

You can only woo six characters out of all of the townsfolk in Moonbury. All six romance options in Potion Permit are available at all times, and your choice of gender at the beginning of the game does not affect who you can or can not form a close relationship with.

For an in-depth guide to learning how to befriend them quickly and get to the point of becoming more than friends, click here.

To romance any of the 6 dateable characters in Potion Permit, you’ll first need to max out their friendship level. Most characters only have 3 friendship levels, but the romanceable characters will have a total of 4. Once you max out their first 3 levels of friendship, you’ll be able to start on the fourth one, which should start the courtship process.

Once you’ve completely maxed out a character’s friendship level, you’ll need to go to Silky Stitch Tailor’s and buy a Moon Brooch for 5 Moon Cloves. Once you’ve got the brooch, simply give it to the desired character and you’ll automatically begin dating! Now, on to our list of eligible suitors:

Bachelorettes

Rue – The daughter of Moonbury’s Mayor and the main reason you are brought to the town. Curing her is the first thing to you do, perhaps she’s a bit smitten with her hero who helped cure her illness

Martha – The waitress of the Lazy Bowl Tavern. She’s the one who helps you start making friends in Moonbury in the first place. Without her maybe you couldn’t befriend people as fast. Maybe there were some ulterior motives there and she just wants you to notice her.

Leano – The tough and gorgeous retired pirate captain. She runs the fishing shop north of the town. No doubt her beauty many a person has gone after, maybe you can traverse those seas better.

Bachelors

Reyner – Moonbury’s resident carpenter and who you go for to help build and improve both your home and clinic. It makes sense once you start spending more time with him helping improve your living and work conditions that you could very quickly build up your bond with him.

Xiao – The mayor’s number one assistant who helps keep the town running. The dark silent type and a hard worker, there’s just something about those that make you want to shoot your shot.

Matheo – Moonbury’s Witch Doctor. This is an odd one to be sure. He spends most of the early game saying a chemist from the capital can not be trusted and you’re wasting the town’s time. Though I guess some of the best love stories are enemies into lovers.

Can You Get Married in Potion Permit?

You’d think that at least one of the 6 available romance options in Potion Permit would be amenable to marriage eventually, but you’d be wrong! Despite the abundance of eligible bachelors and bachelorettes in this game, you cannot get married in Potion Permit.

Not being able to get married to your in-game significant other may come as a low blow to some, but it’s honestly not as bad as you think. Despite not being able to put a ring on their finger, you can still spend your entire in-game life with your spouse; and as long as you keep them happy, they’ll never leave your side! If that’s not marriage, then I don’t know what is!

Can You Romance More Than One Character at a Time?

Obviously, Potion Permit is pretty chill with allowing players to date whomever they please regardless of gender, which is great and all, but how far is the game willing to let players go? Does it offer any forms of polyamorous mechanics, or is monogamy the only route that players can take?

Unfortunately for those who wanted to start their own little Potion Permit love triangle, you cannot date more than one character at a time. All of the romance options in Potion Permit are decidedly not down with anything non-monogamous, so trying anything with any of the other characters while dating someone else is a futile effort.

Monogamy is pretty much the standard in most dating sims (and life sims with dating options), so it’s not astonishing that Potion Permit isn’t an exception. Until someone makes an incredibly convenient polyamory mod for this game, you’ll just have to stick with dating one suitor at a time in Potion Permit.

If you love Potion Permit but are sick of having to date only one character at once, then you should definitely check out Gamer Journalist’s guides for I Was a Teenage Exoxolonist and Stardew Valley!

You can’t technically marry anyone in I Was a Teenage Exocolonist, and Stardew Valley only allows you to marry one of your suitors at a time, but regardless, both of these games allow you to legitimately romance multiple characters at once!
