They say if you noclip out of reality in just the right way, you’ll enter The Backrooms. It sounds fun, maybe even exciting … until you realize you’re defenseless against a horde of otherworldly entities. In the Roblox experience Apeirophobia, players can explore the infinite liminal spaces attributed to The Backrooms.
If you’re up to the challenge, here’s how to make it through the first seven levels. We’ll be following this up with a walkthrough for the second half of the currently available levels. It looks like developer Polaroid Studios is definitely working on more, so bookmark this page for updates! Until then, let’s jump right into the thick of it, starting — naturally — with level 0.
How to Survive Level 0 in Apeirophobia
This is the level most will be familiar with. It’s an infinite labyrinth, and your goal is to reach a ladder that will lead you into the first level. To find the ladder, locate the arrows drawn on the walls. They will point you in the direction you need to go, but be careful! There are a couple of entities skulking the halls. If they see you, take off running in the opposite direction, because they will not hesitate to end your life.
Upon finding the ladder, climb it and take the claustrophobic path to level 1.
How to Survive Level 1 in Apeirophobia
If you suffered in level 0, be cautious of the entity here. It’s a gigantic, eldritch starfish. In level 1, your goal is to find and turn a total of six valves scattered across the map. It might seem like a lot, but provided you can avoid Patrick Star’s much uglier cousin, there shouldn’t be a problem. That said, I couldn’t figure out a surefire way of avoiding this entity. It looks like, if you’re caught, your progress in terms of valves is saved, though. I was caught after the second valve, and upon respawning, I only had to get the remaining four.
Upon turning the final valve, a door near the back of the map will open. It’ll make a loud, buzzing sound, and the button next to it will turn from red to green. I am not sure if the entity responds to this noise, but if I were you, I’d use this opportunity to sprint through the door and into the abyss.
How to Survive Level 2 in Apeirophobia
OK — take a rest. You’ve earned it. There are no entities in level 2. In order to proceed to level 3, however, you’ll need to take the suspicious-looking stairs ahead of you. I know — it looks like a trap, but it’s not. Go up the stairs and you’ll find yourself in an elongated hallway. Follow the hallway until it drops off, and then jump from the ledge to be teleported to level 3. I hope you enjoyed this brief respite.
How to Survive Level 3 in Apeirophobia
This level is stressful, but it’s by no means impossible. Just be patient and obey the rules, and you’ll be fine. The first goal here is to collect three keys that can be found inside the countless filing cabinets. I’d hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the keys’ placement is randomized, so you’ll just have to do some digging. It doesn’t help that the entity this time around, known as the Hound, is completely blind but will react to any and all sounds made in its vicinity. It also doesn’t help that opening the filing cabinets is noisy.
But, on the bright side, as long as you wait until your heartbeat slows to a crawl to walk or open a cabinet, this level should be a walk in the park. Once you’ve acquired all three keys, head for the locked gate and use them on the locks. You should’ve passed the gate as you hunted the keys. It’s kind of hard to miss.
Now — once you’ve unlocked the gate, it’ll make a similar buzzing noise to level 2’s door. I know it’ll be tempting to sprint forward, but don’t. I made this same mistake. The level is NOT OVER YET, and you’ll be killed by the Hound if you take off running. In the second half of this level, the goal is to explore each of the rooms and press the red buttons in each. I personally didn’t find a button in each room, but it’s good to check each, just to be safe. You’ll know you’re in the clear when you hear another buzzing noise.
It’s at this point that you need to make your way back to where you spawned, while avoiding the Hounds. If you remember a door with “This Way?” written on the wall surrounding it, that’s your goal. Head into the door and travel to the bottom of the staircase to proceed forward into level 4.
How to Survive Level 4 in Apeirophobia
*sigh* You made it! Like level 2, there are no entities here. It’s still creepy, so let’s make ourselves scarce. From where you spawn, follow the elongated hallway in front of you. We’re going to ignore the first staircase and proceed until we see the second. Admittedly, this is where I got a little lost. How you know you’re in the right place is based on the floor — when you’re on the right path, the floor will turn to glass, and then to tile again. If you take your time and explore — remember, there are no entities here, so you can afford to take things slow — you’ll eventually come across a white doorway leading to level 5.
How to Survive Level 5 in Apeirophobia
I hope you haven’t gotten a headache from any Apeirophobia levels so far. Because I genuinely don’t know how I beat this one aside from just being lucky. This level is an elaborate and dank cave system and you have to make it to the goal without being caught by the Skin Walker. It should be noted that playing alone is a disadvantage with this level, as this entity will assume another player’s visage and play nice. But, if you’re alone, there’s nothing stopping it from making you wish you were never born.

I think the best advice I could offer for this level is … do your best. If you can make it far enough without seeing the Skin Walker, you’ll come across a purple portal, which will lead you to a true nightmare.
How to Survive Level 6 in Apeirophobia
In theory, this one isn’t too bad. In practice? It’s one of the most frustrating and stressful levels the game has to offer. In this level, you’re being chased by the Titan Smiler, an incredibly fast and annoying entity that will continue to chase you until 1.) it kills you, or 2.) you make it to the goal. I’d recommend having your finger glued to the SHIFT key, but your character has a cardiac arrest after about five seconds, so I can’t in good faith recommend that. Just keep moving. It may take a few tries, but you’ll get it eventually.
