With the recent release of the 1.4 Journey’s End Terraria update, many players are giving the game a shot for the first time. One important thing to know is how to travel around quickly. Pylons can help you accomplish this, and this guide will show you how to get and use Pylons in Terraria.
How to get and use Pylons in Terraria
Pylons are a way to teleport around the world to different biomes quickly. They are sold by NPCs in different biomes, and the Pylon you purchase is specific to that biome. Here is a list of the different biomes in Terraria:
- Cavern
- Desert
- Forest
- Hallow
- Jungle
- Mushroom
- Ocean
- Snow
- Universal
How to get Pylons in Terraria
Pylons are bought from happy NPCs that sell items and live in specific biomes. To make NPCs happy, they must live in the right biome and have the right NPC partner. They also must be item-selling NPCs, like the Merchant, Gun Dealer, and others.
An example of this is the Arms Dealer and the Nurse. These two NPCs can be placed next to each other in most biomes. Place them together in the Ocean biome and you’ll have the option to purchase an Ocean pylon. You can also put them together in the Desert biome since the Guns Dealer prefers this one.
To get a complete list of NPCs and which biomes they prefer, you can look at the Beastiary. This in-game encyclopedia for Terraria explains everything you need to know about each enemy, critter, boss, and NPC.
How to use Pylons in Terraria
After purchasing a Pylon, you can place it down on any flat surface. Pylons will cost about 8 gold from the NPCs. After placing a pylon on the ground, you can right-click it to open a map.
Click the pylon and you will be automatically teleported. Keep in mind you cannot use Pylons simply by opening your map. You must click on a Pylon first, which brings up the map, and then click on another Pylon to teleport.
You can do this for any biome that is habitable by NPCs. I hope this guide helped you figure out how to get and use Pylons in Terraria!
