How to Catch A Snapping Turtle in New Horizons

The Snapping Turtle is one of the new ‘fish’ for the month of April for players in the Northern Hemisphere. This fish has a size 5 shadow and can be caught between 9 pm and 4 am during the months of April through October.

For those players in the Southern Hemisphere, the Snapping Turtle can be caught between 9 pm and 4 am during the months of October through December and January through April.

How to Catch A Snapping Turtle in New Horizons

The Snapping Turtle spawns in Rivers. A good method for catching this fish is to pole vault around the first level of the map to scare aware all of the smaller fish. You can avoid clifftop rivers to lower the amount of possible fish you can catch and increase your odds of seeing a Snapping Turtle.

During the month of April after 9 pm, the only fish with a size 5+ shadow you will see in rivers is the Snapping Turtle. You can safely scare away any other shadow smaller than a size 5. Using this method, you can easily catch the Snapping Turtle just by looking at the shadows.
