How to Get and Upgrade Sideways Scythe in Fortnite

I wonder who came up with the idea of using a scythe as a weapon. They were originally invented for harvesting crops like wheat. Why do you think the Grim Reaper carries a scythe? Because he reaps souls like a farmer reaps crops. Even so, I can’t deny their coolness factor, especially when they’re twisty and glowing purple like Fortnite’s new Sideways Scythe. Speaking of which, here’s how to get and upgrade the Sideways Scythe in Fortnite.

The Sideways Scythe is a new melee weapon added to the game in conjunction with the current “Fortnitemares” Halloween event. It’s quite a flashy implement, leaving purple streaks in the air as you swing it and producing cool whooshing sounds. Best of all, it heals you a bit for every Elimination. If you want one of your own, though, you’re gonna need to take a peek beyond the veil of reality.

How to Get and Upgrade Sideways Scythe in Fortnite

Here’s how to get a Sideways Scythe in Fortnite:

  1. Look for randomly spawning Sideways Anomalies on the map and loot the Sideways Chest within
  2. Alternatively, defeat the Caretaker in the Convergence
  3. Use Cube Parts dropped by Cube Monsters in the Anomalies to upgrade the Sideways Scythe

There are two ways to obtain a Sideways Scythe. First, you’ll need to find a Sideways Anomaly, which spawns in a random spot on the map at the start of a match. These Anomalies are absolutely lousy with Cube monsters, but you don’t actually have to fight them if you’re in a hurry. All you have to do is find the Sideways Chest and loot the Sideways Scythe from it.

The second method is to defeat the Caretaker, a new boss monster that appears in the Convergence. The Convergence is a massive Sideways Anomaly that always spawns roughly in the center of the map. If you can defeat the Caretaker within, there’s a chance he’ll drop the Sideways Scythe. Don’t try to take him on yourself, though; he’s a tough customer.

Once you’ve got your Sideways Scythe, you can then set to upgrading it. Upgrading your Sideways Scythe will increase how much damage it does per swing. In order to upgrade it, you’ll need Cube Parts, which are dropped by the monsters that hang out in Sideways Anomalies.

Starting from Uncommon, you’ll need the following amounts of parts to upgrade to higher rarities:

  • Uncommon to Rare: 15 Cube Monster Parts
  • Rare to Epic: 20 Cube Monster Parts
  • Epic to Legendary: 25 Cube Monster Parts
  • Legendary to Mythic: 50 Cube Monster Parts
