Destiny 2 The Witch Queen Release Date

Finally, after all the teasing, waiting, leaks, and rumors, we finally have a solid release date for Destiny 2’s The Witch Queen. Bungie announced the release date for the DLC as a part of the Destiny 2 showcase. We didn’t just get a release date, though. We’ve also been given a mountain of fresh content to dive into, both for Season 15 and The Witch Queen, as well as beyond. 

When is The Witch Queen coming out for Destiny 2?

The official release date for The Witch Queen is February 22, 2022. That’s it, laid out in black and white, set in stone. Well, unless Bungie decides to push that date back, but with how much anticipation has been built up for Witch Queen, that seems unlikely. 

This release date has come with a brand new trailer for the expansion, giving us some insight into the story premise of The Witch Queen and finally giving us a look at Savathun in all her glory. 

The clear theme of The Witch Queen is “truth.” No, not the rocket launcher. 

This is continuing on from the narrative we’ve gotten with the Red War and the with the Drifter, that being distrust of the Light. We have previously believed that the Light was our god-given right. It was sacred. However, Savathun displays mastery over the light despite being a Hive god, something that we previously thought impossible. 

It may be that the Traveller isn’t the benevolent god that we previously believed it to be. 

Whether this is the “truth” that Savathun keeps referring to or not remains to be seen and will be until February of next year. That’s not going to stop us from speculating, though. 

Destiny 2 The Witch Queen and Future DLCs

We have a confirmed release date for the Witch Queen, but we don’t for the two DLCs following it. In fact, with the exceptions of the names, we know next to nothing about Lightfall or The Final Shape. However, it’s likely that The Witch Queen’s themes will run throughout these final DLCs as we stray further and further away from the light. 

Unfortunately, we don’t have much more information for The Witch Queen beyond story content. Any of you looking for Witch Queen gear and in-game activities will have to wait a little bit longer for anything concrete beyond the teasers that we got in the showcase.
